I would love to find a cheap campsite close to the Edinburgh festival in August any ideas? Been trying to find them on line i'm sure there must be some! Anyone stayed for the destival before?

Not many in Edinburgh itself however abit further out there should be some sorry but dont know any as try no to camp to close to home.

Don't think there's any that are particularly cheap tbh. How cheap do you want, and how close? I live just outside Edinburgh and there's a couple that are on good transport routes. There's no point at all trying to take a car into Edinburgh anyway during Festival time.

inverkeithing. camp site there 1 mile from town . duloch hamlet. a bit like wild camping. no hot water. or showers. lots of trains to edinburgh. this i think will be the best place . nothing really in edinburgh itself. i may be at that site later this year. and a mate wants to go as well. check it out. plent on the web site to read. and reviews are good.

Mortonhall is the big one, there are details on here, and I believe it's a bit pricy. I have stayed at a site at Dalkeith but it's closed down, as did another site in Ed. There's also Cramond.

have tayed at Drum Mohr and got the bus in, a few years ago. Only down sides are it takes about 50mins into the city and last bus back is about 10.45 ish. Can't remember how much the site cost.

I'm assured by the organisers that tent pitchhes are available at festival village, though they aren't advertised and aren't pre bookable.

There's a good campsite (caravan & camping club one) just outside of Edinburgh - in Loanhead. Well worth a visit.
