Hello,
I'm a new french member and i have one question about this great website :
- In the map : What's the difference between the yellow tents and the red ones?
I've planned to travel around England from 10th to 19th of august. From Dover to Hull via Brighton (seem to be a nice place for the sea), Portsmouth (idem brighton), Bristol (a good place for cider?) , Chester (and the zoo), Cobleland (to go on top of the highlands), Peebles (Edimbourgh tattoo), and maybe Masham.
I'm looking for good campsites for my GF, me and my moto (with a tent of course).
The problem is that i can't book because i don't know the distance we will do by day(depend of the weather, nice place we may find during the travel..., and maybe the ? tired ? it's a trip of about 3600 km!).
Thank you for your help.
Thierry (from East of France near switzerland)

Hi,
Green are for sites that have entered their full details, red are for sites that only have the basic information.

Hello Thierry and welcome
Over the past few years camping has become very popular in the UK especially during the school holidays.
Most of the English schools break up during the 3rd week of July until the beginning of September so some campsites will be fully booked. Perhaps contact some you were hoping to visit and check availability.
Scotland is different and the children go back in August so that should not be such a problem - I'm sure one of the Scotish members will confirm dates.
Hope you have a great trip!!!

Hi Thierry
I think if you are travelling on a motorbike with a small tent, most sites will find space for you.
if you look at the Camping and Caravan Club website they have a good selection of sites around the country, membership costs about £35 per year but then you get access to hundreds of smaller places that accept 5 tents, etc.
It's great to hear of someone crossing the channel in the opposite direction - I hope you both have a great time.
Sue

Thank you (Sue, sorry i don't even know what is the XROC!).
I've already find (found) 2 campsites : Cobleland Caravan & Camping Site Forest Holidays (we went there 2 or 3 (maybe 4) years ago) and we staid 2 nights instead of 1.
And the Spiers House Campsite Forest Holidays. I call them on monday, someone told me she would call me back and i'm still waiting... We will try to go directly there if there is a place : good, else, we'll try another one. I'll take with us some adresses just in case!
And they 're not alone because i call 2 others, leave a message and ... no ansers. I thought my English was excellent ! It must not ! I'm sure they didn't anderstand me with my French accent.
1 campsite (in France) told me they keep 30% non-booked pitch for people like me (moving all the time, 1 day here, the other one there). Is it the same in England?
It's difficult to stay concentrated on my work. I'm already on the English roads, drinking Cider, beer, eating fish and chips, haggis, and "build" the tent under the rain. 1 more month to wait...
Thierry.

Welcome Thierry,
Not all sites require booking for tents
For example Castlerigg Farm
or Witches Craig
Always best to ring first as you'd expect. Good Luck.

Agree with all of the above, but Thierry, if you check on this page of the C&CC website you'll find you can, as a visitor, take out temporary membership at a reduced rate.

Thank you, i'm now a Camping and Caravan Club member. (i didn't forget to name UKCAMPSITE) i'm sure we will have a greay time, as usul. (But i must say that the worth in England is your highways always full and always "under construction"!)
Our trip will be :Calais -> Dover, Portsmouth, Winscombe, Aberaeron, Rhyl (2 nights), Whitehaven (Probably Castlerigg Farm, thank you Christine), Cobleland, Peebles, Scarborough and Hull (to Zeebrugge) and Luxembourg.
35 days left!
