Hi all,

I'm looking forward to spending 5 days at Clachtoll campsite from Sunday 11th July and I'm looking for some suggestions/tips on what to do/where to go/where to eat etc. in the area from other campers.

Any suggestions welcome and if you're at the site that week stop by and say hi to the family in the Weathermaster!

Thanks

Gary

Won't be of much help, but just to say very jealous that you have got in to Clachtoll - was fully booked by the time we knew we could go. Stayed there in our tent 2 years ago - just wonderful - and can't wait to go back with our van. Spent the whole time on the beach, walking the dog along the shore, fishing...don't think we really went anywhere or did anything!

marvelous part of the world, the walk from the Stoer Lighthouse up to the Old Man is worth it, can get windy but seen sea eagles up there

Hi .... My review is here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?page=3&revid=4151 my cousin lives on the the road (Torbreck) to the campsite, and his brother in law lives next door to the campsite .....

I've been going to lochinver for 15 years ... and suggest that what to do is weather dependent .... there is a Michelin listed cafe/deli take away in lochinver with reputedly the best pies in Scotland .... the butcher sells lots of home produced goodies ..... plenty of mountains to climb, beaches to explore etc etc  check out the what's on at the TIC in Lochinver..... Ulapool is a nice to see .... in fact I've visited all the NTS/Gardens/Gorges/Falls etc on the way up over the years and none have dissapointed

But my best piece of advice is this ....DONT FORGET THE MIDGE REPELENT

This website is specific to Clachtoll but the same site will also take you to other pages covering the surrounding area.

We went two weeks ago, we spent a day just wandering round Clachtoll - Split Rock headland, the bay on the other side of the headland (there's a big cave there too which we didn't get down to), the crannog/broch near Stoer, a wander up the road back towards the lochans...

Also Lochinver and Culag Woods, Achmelvich (chippy opens at 5.30, sell cakes from 4 till 5:30), Loch Assynt, Inchnadamph and the Bone Caves, the coffee/book shop a few miles past Lochinver (can't remember it's name).  Didn't get to Stoer lighthouse or the shop/deli at Drumbeg.  Actually spent quite a bit of time just relaxing on the site, didn't feel a pressing need to travel about!

One more sleep then we head for an overnight stay in Inverness then on to Clachtoll. Can't wait - If it's half as good as the reviews we'll have a great time.

Thanks for the tips.

Take some decent binocs with you. Last time we were there we stood on the mound out at the Salmon Fishermans Hut and watched a school (???) of Minki Whales swimming down the Minch.
