Hi

A few of us (3 adults and 2 kids) are looking at going away camping for 3-4 nights sometime at the beginning of August. One of the adults had a very bad experience camping last year (rained all two weeks) and so she's reluctant to come but...is willing if the site is nice and the weather good. Hence it will be a last minute 'pack and go ' holiday so ideally we're looking at a site where we don't need to book and we can just turn up or phone that morning to see if they have spaces.

We don't want to go too far...Herefordshire (Ross on Wye area) or Forest of Dean seem ideal and neither do we want entertainment on site. A nice pub and river nearby would be great as would  a 'cheap' site that also allows a camp fire. Finally....as we would like to get our friend 'into' camping rather than put her off a nice shower block would be great.

I know this is a tall(ish) order but if any of you know of a site fitting our requirements that would be great. I've spent an hour trawling through the camp site search but not many have reviews...a little help would be great

Thanks in advance

Mel

Bracelands Campsite ticks all your boxes apart from fires,but... and i didn't say this, people kind of light their BBQs with firelogs   huge site with a fantastic Forest/river walk to the pubs.Does get busy, but we have never been turned away....yet? maybe worth phoning on the morning before departure.

Have Fun,

H/L

Doward Park near Symonds Yat is excellent. No fires though.

It is a very peaceful site - a pub serving good food about 15 mins walk away - the Ferryman I think it is called.
