Dear all,

I've searched the site for information about the camp site a Devon Crealy (or White deer camping as it is also known) but can't find anything (not listed) so I thought I'd post this to see what response I'd get.

We are off there in August for 4 nights (they only allow caming for 5-6 weeks of the year)  and thei website and information doesn't give much information, like shower facilities, dish washing, EHU, freezer block exchange etc..I have emailed them for some answers but I really appreciate ukcampsite for ease of access to this basic information plus the detailed reviews people publish about where they have been.

Now I'm not sure if this is the first year of camping at Crealy (I doubt it) so if anyone has been there or knows anything about it (apart from the adventure park bit which my daughter has been to with Bronies) I'd really appreciate the information and your review of the camping facilites.

Many thanks in advance

I don't know the answers to your questions but when you find out I'd be interested to know as we have thought about camping there too.

I haven't camped there but I did notice the site as we were visiting the theme park at the time of last year's opening. I think it was open for the month of August only. It appeared to be a field at the back end of the site car park with a separate entrance then into the camping field. My recollection was that there wasn't a great deal on the camping field as it is used just for such a short period (i.e. probably no EHU), but of course you have the theme park with lots of play areas/adventure play, as well as the "rides" right on your doorstep. I also seem to recall that camping guests got in to the park earlier and had the ability to "adopt a pony" if you were staying for a week. Can't remember the cost or if it included entry to the park, but you got a wristband to the park anyway which let you go back within 7 days.

Is this the place you've booked to camp?

Thanks for the posts so far.

Phillip S, Thank you for your comments.  We have booked the adopt a pony experience which is free if you stay 3 or more nights (bargin).

Merry,  Yes that is the place we have booked.  However the information on the website is only the highlights of what is there,  not the nitty gritty stuff like how far do I need to walk to the showers, water tap etc...

I'm still waiting for a reply from Crealy to my questions.  Once I get one I'll post the reply on this post.

Hi all,  Sorry for the delay in feeding back but I kept getting mixed messages from Crealy on the phone so thought I'd feed back first hand after our stay.

Devon Crealy camping (AKA white dear camping) is only available during the summer holidays at present.  The camping field was very level and we were told that we could pitch where we liked.  It was a big field and space was not a problem.  The toilet and shower blocks were portacabin style and were great (better than some fixed facilities we've used in the past.  They were kept clean and there was always hot/warm water.  Gent's had only 3 showers compared to the ladies 5.  Dish washing facilites were also portacabin style.

There were plenty of water points around the field but there is no electric hook up facility on the field although Bill the warden (very nice man) informed us that a planning application was going through to turn the site into a formal camping site including EHU and Permanent toilet/shower facilities

There is a facility to refreeze your freezer blocks in one of the crealy cafe places so take plenty of spares.

On the whole we had a fantastic 5 days.  Great weather helped as usual.  The kids thought Crealy was fantastic.  Plus Exmouth beach is only 20 min's away.

All this information may well be out of date by 2011 if there plans to create a formal site go through.  We would certainly return again next year regardless.

This sounds a great possibility for next year. It says you have to be members of the Camping and Caravan Club - was that really the case? We're thinking of joining anyway, and that would be another reason to join!

I didn't see anywhere about having to be part of the C7C club.  We were not ...but I hear good things about them especially if trying to book last minute as they have a database of availablity apparently.

Crealy was great and could have easily spent a week there, although electic would have been nice.
