The first week of July saw us down at Caister on Sea at the Haven complex. We stayed on the newly built touring park which opened in May this year. Just being a new section to the Haven complex there are very few if any write ups about it.
On arrival we were met by Joe the very warm and freindly warden. She gives you your passes and site info then will walk you to your pitch. The pitches themselves are very spacious but are on a very slight slope running from the top of the site to bottom so I would advise a levelling block. It would only be a couple inches though.
Each pitch is serviced with its own EHU at 16amps, on the tower there is the water point which has screw threads on it if you have an adapter for a hose, there is a TV connector also, under the stand there is the grey water drain. This EHU tower only supplies you and not your neigbour.When the caravan is set onto your pitch there is enough room to put up your awning and still have room to put the car next to that. Our caravan is 16 foot and at the front we had about 3 foot to spare, at the rear there was about 7 foot to spare so enough room there to.
The front half of the pitch is reinforced while the back half is grass and plenty of it to lie about on. At the moment all pitches are boardered with shrubs and when they grow it will make all pitches private. You might find it a bit tight to reverse your unit onto the pitch if its a long one because the road through the site is not that wide.
The toilet/shower block is excellent, though it should be its brand new. The only fault I found was the use of the timer valve on the shower, you only get 30 seconds. Ok its no problem pressing it a few times to have your shower but it would be nice not to. Hot water in the shower was just right and has a good pressure to it. Just outside the doors to the toilets is the washing up and vegetable preperation area, while the chemical toilet waste was round the back of them.
As you expect on a Haven site there are plenty activities for the kids, from a pool to cycle hire, football area fenced off and a zip wire. At the very bottom of the complex there is a walkway straight onto the beach which is very handy. There is a Fish shop, Chinnees takeaway who will deliver to your caravan, Mash and Barrel pub where meals are served and an ordinary pub. There is the entertainment hall which has slot machines and the stage for the shows. I found the caravan park very clean and tidy at all times as were the toilets and showers.
Outside the main gates there is another Fish shop and Chinnees takeaway but not connected to Haven. Aprox 50 yards to the left outside the main gate there is the bus stop for Great Yarmouth and for the return journey its up and across a bit.
You have to be a bit carefull when approaching the site from the north side because the sign for tourers is not visible and when you get into the main concorse it is hard to turn round. It is the second entrance for the touring site. You can see it ok coming from Great Yarmouth side. There are plans to make the site bigger and raise the pitches from its current 44 but I could not find out when its going to happen. All in all its a great touring site and very handy for the area.
I would recomend it if you area going to drive around Norfolk as the road links are pretty good. I would give the Touring side of the complex 9 out of 10.
