According to SatNav from Widnes to Newquay (town centres) takes 5hr 22min minimum actual driving time. The map on iPod states an hour longer but SatNav is usually more reliable. Hope that helps.

I was at girls' grammar school in Widnes an eternity ago.

Arriving at Trevornick for 1 pm should be fine, however should you be delayed the later you are increases your chances of delays. The A30 is now mostly dual carriageway apart from a couple of places. Temple - just before Bodmin is the usual problem where it goes into single carriageway, but around midday you should be OK. You should leave the A30 at Indian Queens onto A392 then left onto A3075 then right at Cubert Xroads down to Holywell Bay. If you have been to the site before I may be telling you directions that you already know. I live 4 miles way from Trevornick. Good luck with your journey and drive safely.

I agree.  The worst place to hit is Bristol on a Friday.  Things are looking up weather wise for you though - local weather gives sunshine Fri/Sat so far!

Head off very early from widnes,no later than 6am... it took me 7.5hrs to get home from Dorset to Preston last friday!!!! normally thats a 5 hr trip for me!!and that was just the start of the school hols, the main one is this weekend!!

Friday may be better for the cornish trip with a lot of people on a sat to sat holiday.

I'll never forget our first trip to cornwall when we set off from here at 3am thinking a clear mway was ours!!....oh no.... M6 was v busy with most vehicles going on hols with DVD screens on in the back...infact the kids were noting what everyone was watching as it was clear to see in the dark!!

We always travel during the night when we go down to Trevornick, longer journey for us and we usually have about 4 or 5 stops, but takes us around 10 hours with stops.  Much better during the night, roads are much quieter as are service stations.  We've arrived at Trevornick just as dawn was breaking and you are put on the overflow field (there's a security man to direct you), we had a bit of a kip and were on our pitch by mid-morning.

I'm coming to Trevornick too - gosh I'm so exicted. Cadac arrived this morning!  I'm leaving on Sunday though - we are doing Sunday to Sunday to try and avoid some of the traffic - no idea if it'll work but we can give it a go.  Route planner says 6 1/2 for us so I'm hoping for just one or two stops this time.

First time we came to Cornwall it took about 13 hours - it was when the floods happened in the midlands and the M5 was closed.  Nightmare getting there, with family members ringing every hour to see how many inches we'd moved but I can tell you it was the best UK holiday I've had.

I'm thinking of setting of really early - glad to hear we can park up somewhere until our pitch becomes available - I'll prob set off even earlier now.

We went to Tevornick in 2007,we decided to break our journey up by stopping over in Burnham on Sea for the night.(we live a stones through from Chemicalville)

That was the worst Holiday of my life,up to now.

The site was alright, but the weather was dreadful.I didn`t come home with a tan,I came home with trenchfoot.

We drove to Trevornick overnight, arriving at early/late arrivals field at about 2am. Got our heads down, and the security man even knocked on the door in the morning to tell us that reception was opening.

Travelling the night before is ok if you haven't had a long old day at work first, and then set off tired.

The M6 is going to be closed overnight Fri/Sat between J11 and J7
I believe J8 is the M5 turn off junction!!

Road chiefs said today the southbound section of the M6 between Junction 11 at Cannock and Junction 7 at Great Barr will be shut from 10pm on Friday until 8am on Saturday and from 8pm on Saturday until 10am on Sunday.

"Highways Agency spokeswoman Hannah Brookes said: “We will be carrying out works overnight as traffic flows are lower.

“We are aware people will be heading off on holidays, but closures will not be put in place until traffic drops. The carriageway and slip roads could be reopened earlier than we are expecting.” (source: Shropshire Star website, Weds 21st July 2010)

Of course traffic will drop you moron, people will be off trying to find an new route in anticipation of you closing the motorway!!  Der!!

Closing the busiest motorway to the south and west country on the first weekend of  the summer holidays, nice one ...
