Taylorsmummy - think our needs are very similar (apart from the dogs) so hopefully you can benefit from my hours of trawling the net looking for a perfect site (that probably doesn't exist!). We have a 1& 3 year old, are in WYorks, willing to travel about 2 hours. Our wish list was decent washroom, playground (or in walking distance) & shop in walking distance - so could do lots of little trips out to keep boys busy without having to get in car everytime.
Have done
Vale of Pickering was gorgeous but nowhere to walk to really http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2778
Middlewood Farm in RHB was brill with shop, parks, pub, beach in walking distance - we went midweek and was a bit like a refugee camp by the time the weekenders arrived - that said - no great noise and everyone v friendly http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3473
On wish list for after Aug BH when the crowds have gone are...Red Bank Farm near Morecambe http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2829 seems to tick our boxes.
This one in Northumberland near Seahouses http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5974
Or Cote Ghyll in Osmotherly http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3605
All 3 get fab reviews and seem to meet our needs...
My friend just went here - attached to farm park with free entry for campers - thought it was fab http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5813
