As far as I am aware there are no campsites in Matlock Bath but several around Matlock itself depending on how far you want to walk. Lickpenny is an excellent site but situated at tansley rather than Matlock, Packhorse Farm again at Tansley. There are a couple at Wirksworth but in my opinion not as good as the two I have mentioned.
There are quite a few good sites around Carsington water, which start from around a fiver a night, and are within walking distance to a few good pubs and facilities at Carsington visitor centre. Theres also a good bus route, that will take you into Ashbourne or Matlock bath, but no campsites in the Matlock bath itself, its mainly shops and tourist attractions, hotels and restaurants, loads of rock faces and steep ground that would not be suitable for any kind of campsite!

Just thought, the new one at the head of Carsington water is called The Pudding Room, and i believe they have some kind of onsite eatery as well, the sign said camping, £4.75 per night, when we went past last weekend. The main site looked fairly level, but on one part further towards the visitor centre, you may need leveling blocks as it slopes away sideways.
