Hi,

Planning on going to Fisherground on Thursday until Sunday, no EHU. Am getting a bit paranoid though that it will be full and we will end up driving round Cumbria aimlessly.

I am hoping that we will get there before any other weekenders who might typically arrive on the Friday!

Any idea if this is likely - if so, are there any alternatives?

July - Swiss Farm, Henley
August - Greenacres, Somerset

We went there a few years ago and arrived on a Thursday, no problem getting a pitch. It does get very full at the weekend. Only other option in Eskadle is the C&C site. Nice site in Grizedale Forest near Satterthwaite shouldn't be too busy on a Thursday.

I live nearby and suggest you ring the site on Weds and ask if they have many spaces, if they say yes, the chance you will get a pitch are good. If not you could try the C&CC site up the road, or the one at Ravenglass.

Eskdale up the road could be an option - wonderful site!  I love that area.

Thanks for the replies

I can't ring up and ask, I am too anxious/worried they will say they're full and I'd rather not know now before we set off and have the hassle of ringing round everwhere, looking at reviews etc! I know that sounds ridiculous

I have made a list of alternatives I like the look of so will hopefully get in somewhere.

I have visions of all 5 of us sleeping in the car

This is exactly the reason we changed our plans last week, we did try and call to see if there were any pitches to not get a reply at all for several days so we ended up on the other side of the Lakes. It is a shame as it is a good site. Think we will be booking an EHU next time but I think this also needs doing months in advance. I feel the site has now grown so much they maybe need to start taking bookings.

I really would phone and see if there is room - my friend drove for hours at the same time last year before she could get a campsite and ended up in one she would not have chosen only because there was nowhere else.  It is the busiest time of year.

Update - I did set off to Fisherground on Thursday and have just returned yesterday.

It looked scarily full when we pulled up but we were shown straight to a pitch and I soon realised come Saturday that there was plenty of room on the Thursday judging by all the people who had arrived and pitched on Fri and Sat!

It was a lovely, clean site, however I'm not sure I would go back. Mainly due to the location, although lovely it was just a touch too remote for me and meant too much driving to go visiting somewhere else, like Coniston for example. Of course this isn't the fault of the site itself!
