I have just booked the above campsite for 3 nights next week, to attend the Dawlish airshow.

Anyone been there, is a nice site, I know about the hill you have to trek up to get to and from the beach, but myself and OH are youngish and slightly fit myself OH super fit!!

i also understand that you have to pay 20p for a shower, are they nice showers? For me the shower situation makes or breaks a camping trip.

Off now to purchase my heater, and get ready for camping trip no.2 of the season.

yayyy can't wait!!!

Thanks PJ, I have read the reviews, just wanted to see if I could prise a bit more out of previous visitors.

To be honest I was surprised that we got a pitch at such short notice with it being the Carnival week and Thursday being the airshow day. As my 1st choice Peppermint Park only had limited availability in the overflow field with no leccie.

To be honest, I can't wait, the pressure of having nothing to do at work is driving me crazy, ah well all be over in 10 weeks!!!

we are at peppermint park from the 28th aug....gutted we didn't book a week before as there is so much going on..but due to hubby work hols..this is the only time off.

but for next year its worth thinking about....seen pic's of the airshow on the dawlish website...it looks great and im sure my 2 boys would love it

also im not 100% sure if its the same week you are there..but up the top of the hill just outside peppermint park..there is a monster truck show in one of the fields....seen this a few years ago...its worth checking out if your in to that and have kids!!

would love to see pic's of the air show when you get back.

We went there twice, once in a tent before the school holidays in the tent field which is slightly sloping but spacious & again in a folding camper during the school summer holidays in another area which backed onto the field where the market is (the setting up noise of the market early in the morning was not welcome!!)  .  I much prefer it when its quieter.  The pitches are big enough and very well kept. The staff were very helpful.  My husband used the showers and said they are "adequate".

Its location is the best bit & I would go again for that, although Id be tempted to try Peppermint Park if it worked out cheaper,

Thanks for that Clare and Homebird.

I shall task the OH to take piccies of the airshow, then I'll try and post them on here, and I shall lookout for the Monster Trucks too, we have no kids (thanks god), but myself and OH do qualify!!!

We have just paid £60.50 for 3 nights 2 adults with leccie, which I though was a bargain. Peppermint park is £27 per night with leccie and £20 pn without. I normally pay £30 pn with leccie at Freshwater.

Now the next quest, to find somewhere for bank Holiday, thinking Dartmouth!!

OMG - Scott May must be about 100 yrs old now

His posters have been doing the rounds in the West Country for years

We visited for the airshow 2 yrs in succession, & loved it both times. Watching from the seafront in Dawlish town is the best view, but is noisy when the trains rumble past directly behind you. The most exhilerating is on the top of the red rock (on the sea front between Dawlish & Dawlish Warren) where the red arrows flash directly overhead. The view's very good from there too

Clare,

It sounds like you are in the 'casual' area, which looked like a tiered field just behind the shop, with a little walk to the shoer block. From ehat I seen when having a gander the other week (when I stayed at the opposite static site) the feidl was large, but no tents were in it at the time. The actual main tenting field is quite small and up the back of the site out the way. I'm sure you will love it there, you are only a 5 minute walk away from the beach, so the car can have a well deserved rest. I would totally reccommend the supermarket Geralds (i think its called) they do fantastic offers in there on all your family staples. The onsite shop is quite small tho.

When I booked in at leadstone, they asked the size on my tent, I said 5 man, the booking form was delivered to me yesterday and the 'small tent' box was ticked with 5 man written next to it. i think it is the normal thing now for 5 man tenst to be classed as small, whcih is fine for me as there are only 2 of us in it!!

Thanks for the link, looks like th e week your there they are doing Bugs things on the Nature reserve for the kids, would yours like that? The nature reserve is at the end of the beach to the left of the Boathouse.

Enjoy your holiday, I'm sure you won't be bored there is so much to do there, and relaxing at the same tiime.

Donna
