Looking for one of those special places that we all love. Not to bothered where in the UK. Have been looking at The Lakes, The Cotswolds, New Forest, The Gower, really anywhere within a couple of hundred miles of Shropshire.  Only places we dont want to do to are Mid and North Wales and Derbyshire simply because they are our regular haunts and we would like somewhere new!

OH and I plan a few days away week after next and are looking for a small quiet site with smashing views and great walks on the doorstep.   Toilets and showers required and must accept dogs.  A pub within walking distance would be a bonus but for THAT view I would happily go without!

Probably asking too much at such such short notice and the in the school Hols but plan to go Mon - Fri so avoiding the bank holiday!

So please, share with me your special sites.

I reckon our special place is Shrewsbury!!!!! Can't wait til next Monday when we go to our favourite Ebury Hill. After that down to Pembrokeshire which is surely a little gem. Can't help on a site though as we go for the sites without toilets.

I could give you the perfect site but again, it's without toilets (oh and there isn't a pub near anymore)

If you're after that kind of site I'd seriously consider investing in a portaloo!

My special site is Wyreside Farm Park at St. Michaels near Garstang, Lancs. Only ten pitches, all with electric, which are round the outer edge of the field so there's a big space in the middle and you don't feel hemmed in. There are no real views from the site itself but there's a river at the back with a good dog walk along the bank and a couple of fields where dogs can run free, and from there you get brilliant views over to the hills of the Trough of Bowland. There's also a little sandy 'beach' on a bend of the river which is great for picnics and kids paddling. The riverside path is part of the Wyre Walk, if you cross the main road the path continues and you can walk for miles. Free range hens roaming about and you can buy fresh eggs from the house. There's a footpath leading direct from the site to the local pub. There's only one loo and shower for each sex, but they were spotlessly clean all the time and I never had to queue to use them. If you want small and quiet then this is it - a little bit of heaven tucked away in a corner.

My all time favourite & special place is Henry's Campsite in Lizard Village, Cornwall. Ticks all your boxes. Check out my recent review, or my blog entry. Great walks on SW coast path, 2 pubs 200m away in the village, sea views from most pitches. However I know that is now fully booked until Spetember. Maybe one for the future.

Treen Farm, Porthcurno meets all your requirements and is lovely too. Walk to the amazing Minack Theatre on the SW coast path, sea views, good pub in village. You cannot book, just turn up early for a pitch.

But if you want panoramic views then Little Meadow near Ilfracombe is hard to beat. Again check out my review.

For the Lakes I'd recomend Syke Farm in Buttermere - right in the village, 2 pubs, Buttermere Lake and Crummock Water are only a short walk away, with some fabulous walking on your doorstep, including Red Pike, Robinson and Haystacks (Wainwright's favourite fell and a brilliant walk!). Very basic site but lovely views, again just turn up and pay at the farm in the village.

The Quiet Site near Ullswater is a bit bigger but has an amazing quirky little bar on site in a converted barn, sells real ale if that is your thing. Leaflet of local walks (I can recomend Place Fell and the Aira Force waterfalls walk which you can do from the site).

Also, never stayed there but the NT site in Langdale is supposed to be lovely. On my list of "to-dos"!

I hope this gives you some ideas - wherever you end up, enjoy!

I know it's not the area you're looking at(..and I assume that you've been there already anyway! ) but the Green Caravan Park at Wentnor,is a lovely little site and ideal for a last minute bolt-hole,to keep under your belt

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I do love Cornwall, but we have done it to death over the years and its way over 2 hours lol.
Bishops Castle is too close really lol
I have bitten the bullet and joined the CC&C and really fancy the New Forest sites, just got to persuade hubby that no facilities is doable! O and perhaps buy another toilet as we only have a Kampa Khazi!
