recently made an enquiry to stay at Old Down touring park nr Bath, and received a reply back stating £18.00 a night for a caravan, 2 adults and ehu

My stay was proposed 26th Aug 2010, three nights.

I confirmed via e-mail my dates, and cost (£54 I assumed )

the return e-mail apologetically stated as it was bank holiday weekend, it would be £18.00 for the 26th, and £100.00 for the weekend,  and I could stay Sunday night if I wanted, which I couldn't as I have to go to work.., nonetheless its now £118.00 for my stay, I understand high and low season, but this seems a bit different again

Just to ask you helpful people out there, is this the norm, and is the pricing fair.. , it works out to an average of £39.00 a night.., as I cant do Monday

So what they are saying is...you pay £18 for the first night (thursday) and £100 for the next 2 nights(fri & sat)??? if so thats crazy!! but coming from the campsite point of view..you could be taking up a pitch that is needed for the whole of the bank holiday weekend...you get what i mean??

ive booked at dawlish peppermint park for 3nights arriving 28th and departing on the tuesday....In a tent with 2 adults 2 kids 1 dog and no EHU and we are paying £86 was £96 thanks to ukcampsites..i found a 10% discount code!

So you are paying £18 for the first night and £50 each for the other two nights - that's way ott in my book! Yes, it is becoming the norm for a lot of sites to charge more for bank holidays - something I certainly don't agree with (pure greed imo) - but that's just too much.

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago when a site we used to go to regularly started doing this 'minimum 3 nights at bank holidays' thing. When I rang to book I explained we could only stay two nights due to work commitments and the owner said we could pay for the three nights but only stay for two if we wished, as if he was doing me a favour! Needless to say I didn't book and haven't been back there since, even though I am now in the position where I can do three nights. I now tend to stick to sites where I know they don't charge extra just because it's a bank holiday.

As far as your site is concerned, vote with your feet and go elsewhere if you can.

We're going away on the Friday night before BH Monday and we've been charged 4 nights at £30 and the rest at £22, you expect to pay a little extra for BH but that is ridiculous, as said above, I'd vote with my feet. What I object to is minimum 4 night stays, because most people can only stay 3, Fri, Sat, Sun and have to be back at work on the Tuesday so go home Mon.

From what you say, its £18 for the Thursday but then £100 for 3 nights even if you only want the 2 nights. That would be £33 per night (big increase).

Tell them to take a personal visit to the taxidermist, that is a rip off. I am paying £4.50 a night for that weekend.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Yes it would be if redz stayed for the three nights he/she was paying for, but only staying for two means it works out at £50 per night. Adding in the price for the Thursday works out at an average of £39 per night as redz says - more than double the normal price. That's definitely a rip-off!

I have come across one or two sites recently that charge more for Friday and Saturday nights than the rest of the week, bank holiday or not. This certainly is just greed. They know most people tend to camp from Friday through to Sunday and simply want more money.

I am seriously considering breaking with tradition and changing my camping days to midweeks instead of weekends. Not only could it be cheaper but possibly quieter as well, but that wouldn't be so easy for people who have to work full time.

We all complain about these hikes in prices and the advice is always the same, 'vote with your feet and go elsewhere'. Unfortunately people don't...they just cough up and then we all end up having to pay higher prices. If we all boycotted highly priced sites they wouldn't last long.

It really spoils caravanning/camping all this grasping but then we get "well it cost this and it costs that for us to run the site" we know that and we don't mind paying a fair price but some of these pitch fees and rules like the ones haven have in their brochure " no one is allowed to sleep in awnings" and one of their sites last year I think it was had a pitch fee of £69, yes 69 quid per night, and they are one of the main culprits of this sun to thurs one price, fri & sat higher price and not just on bank holidays.

A couple of other things I have seen recently are "our new pitches have metered electric buy a card from reception" and one that offered so many nights with a maximium 20 kwhs of electric. What will we see next '5 nights 20kwhs leccy and 4 gallon of water 150 quid'

And the one thing that really gets on my left tit is dogs. For example, in june a dog costs a quid a night but from july they cost 2 quid for some really weird reason.
