Hello and we;come to the forum. First post!! And it only took 19 months from joining!!
First of all, you will probably find that your thread is moved to a different forum on this site, one specifically for campsite enquiries - just follow the links in your email notifications and they will take you to whereve it is moved to.
By "North West" do you include the Lake District or are you keeping it to around God's own county of Lancashire?
As to which are best it all depends on your circumstances. I prefer remote, small to medium independent family-run sites with few but decent facilities. I don't want club houses or playgrounds but I do want beautiful fews and space for the kids to play and to roam.
So what electorate are you trying to please on your camp?
You can choose by area, or even better is you can pinpoint your chosen destination area on a map, then select your requirements, e.g. toilets, showers, tents etc. then you can find all sites within 5 , 10 or 20 miles of your marker

Well, the Ribble valley Naturist CLub is not far from Clitheroe!!
Don't worry too much about the weather. It's nice to pitch your tent when it's dry and even nicer to take it all down when it's dry, but I've had rain at both ends of camps and in the middle. We once even had a moat round our tent over an inch deep!! If you've got kids just take a few things with you (colouring books, crosswords, sudoku, reading books, cards, etc. TESCO has small travel version of popular games such as Connect 4, Ludo and Battleships). My boys love their TV and computer games but never once on camp have they memoaned not having them, even when the rain has restricted outside activities.
I must say I don't know that area very well and not really looked to camp there. If you fancied north instead of east then have a look at Red Bank Farm and Gibraltar Farm. I've not been to either (I tend to stick to areas in and around National Parks) but I may go to one of these two next week or the week after to meet up with friends; they look to be something like the sort of places I camp at and they are just about within your 20-30 mile boundry.
