Hi, next year we are hoping to be heading down to cornwall for two weeks camping and maybe splitting it into 2 locations, north and south. Can anybody recommend any good campsites especially around the st`ives area, close to the beach would be nice. Many thanks.

Consider Gwithian Farm. Very popular so book soon.

We found not being actually near beach but driving to different beach areas an advantage. If you like small simple sites consider Gwel an Bal

Are you looking for busy/commercial sites with stuff to do, or somewhere quiet and basic?

When we head to South Cornwall we always stay at River Valley which is near St Austell/Pentewan.  The site has a small indoor pool and there is a lovely 2.5 mile walk  (flat) along the river to Pentewan beach.  Pub in Pentewan village also small grocery store and chip shop opposite campsite.  No dogs allowed on Pentewan beach though.

Depends what kind of site you like...

If you are looking for somehwere near St. Ives & close to a beach, I would suggest Gwithian Farm too. It's about 8 miles from St. Ives, lovely facilities, massive beach and brilliant coastal walks on the doorstep, you can see seals at the bottom of the cliffs by Godrevy lighthouse. It is not a big commercail site, there is a shop but no bar or swimming pool etc - nice quiet family site.

Other recomnedations in Cornwall:

South - Treen Farm, Porthcurno or Henry's Campsite, Lizard.

North - Dennis Cove, Padstow.

there are so many you are spoiled for choice. my list would be

treggurian c&cc site near watergate bay

watergate bay touring park . that is next to the site above ( not a club site )

trevella cavaravan park the other side of newquay.

sea view international. near mevegissy

godrevey cc club site near hayle just down the road from gwithian.

im sorry i didnt have time to look for the links on here , but we have stayed on all of these sites more than once , they are all briliant.

the area around newquay is excellent with so much to do and in a location that means you can get anywhere you want . by car or public transport.

st ives is the same i would say . a great location.

South Cornwall, try Tregarton Park and or Seaview International. Both sites are near to St Austell and we found them both to be excellent. Both have outdoor heated pools and also tennis courts etc.

Happy Hunting

Not sure about what type of site, or for that matter, the sort of holiday you like.  We like Globe Vale, just outside Redruth.  It's central position means that it is good for getting to different places.  It has a small bar that does straightforward food.  Site is laid our really well and full service pitches are available on hardstanding or grass (EHU and water hook-up/drainaway).  It has a childrens play area - take a look at the reviews and the website.  It would be my first choice if going to this area.  The site is lovely - excellent toilet blocks and a very well looked after site.

It you want a purely beach holiday, then from what folk say, it might be worth considering Chy Carne on the Lizard.  It's within a stones throw of Kennack Sands.  Folk say it is possible to walk down and back up to Chy Carne from Kennack Sands, but I for one would take the car - I would find it too much.  It is one of the few beaches I have been to where I have always been able to park the car, and the beach is really close to the car park.

St Ives is lovely and certainly worth a visit, but parking is a bit of a nightmare and the town can get very crowded during the holiday season.  If you want to travel in to St Ives every day by bus then somewhere like Polmanter or Little Trevarrack are the ones to look at.  There is a bus service from the site to the town, and back.  If you only want to visit St Ives occasionally and to visit other places as well, then I would go back to my first suggestion - Globe Vale.
