...with a bike trailer with 2 toddlers in...was thinking about somewhere in Sherwood forest or similar but anywhere up norf would do. Can't seem to find a decent family site in the forest.

Been suggested Spiers House but really far from everything.

Ideally we like to pitch up and not have to bother with the car again.

Cheers

Derbyshire, Tissington Trail, there are a few sites near to there, have a look for Ashbourne in the campsite search.

Would you consider Norfolk?

Try checking out Sherwood Forest Holiday Park, lovely family site close to Sherwood Pines, a great forest with loads of cycling trails of varying difficulties from family trails to expert MTB trails. There's also play areas for kids, cafe, a bike shop and Go Ape.

Here's the link thingy...... http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1778

Thanks Rich - I did see Sherwood Forest Holiday park but wasn't sure if location any good. Less than an hour from home so ideal. Reading through the reviews - bit confused as to which section to go for - which camping bit would you recommend?

Yes - outdoor lass - would give Norfolk a go for the right site - where do you have in mind?

What I find really difficult is finding a site with all the bits in walking distance - village, pub, shop, little bit of cycling  etc - all the best places seem to be in the middle of nowhere - to me its not a holiday if everytime we want to do something we all have to pile into the car. With 2 toddlers we are always looking for lots of little activities from the tent door as they are a bit too young for just pottering around all day.

Manor Farm, East Runton, in Norfolk is slap bang in the middle of the Norfolk Coastal Path, plenty of walks and cycling.  We dont use the car once we arrive there, Cromer is within walking distance, East Runton is also within walking distance, we find loads of places to cycle although I must admit we dont have children so I am not sure as to the suitability for cycling for young ones

Second the suggestion of Tissington/High Peak trails - there are plenty of sites along that and not that far from civilisation.    Just note that the High Peak trail has a couple of steep hills towards Cromford once you get past Middleton.

We went to Conkers in Derbyshire. Adjacent to the site are cycle/walking tracks. The area is being converted into a forest. The paths are novice friendly. My wife is a fair weather cyclist and found the paths fine.

Off the top of my head i think is was Donisthorpe Colliery and now the National Forest

Delamere Forest? It's a C&CC club site, you can buy milk and the like at reception and the village shop is a mile or so away. The site is also variously attended by a fish and chip van, pizza van and pie van so you can avoid cooking 3 nights of the week! Go Ape, railway station and the whole forest are literally on the edge of the campsite.

Hello again reen, sorry for the late reply, been working all weekend!

With 2 toddlers I would recommend a pitch in the Cedar area of Sherwood Forest Holiday Park. It has EHU if required, it's own spotless toilet/shower block and pot wash and also the younger kids play area which is ideal for the little ones. Cedar is only a short stroll to the reception / shop too.

There's a farm park which is a 200m walk from the west end of the park with all sorts of birds and animals, there's a miniature steam train ride too, great for the kids! Get a leaflet from reception to get discounted entry.

We're going again very soon, been 4 times in the last year, love the place, it has a really safe feel to it. Our girls are 10 and 7 and we have no hesitation about letting them explore the site on their own (if they take my mobile!!!)
