I'm hoping someone can help. We're staying at Appuldurcombe Gardens, nr Ventnor (Isle of Wight) for the first time in September.
As we will be arriving on a Sunday we're wondering what will be open locally in the evening serving food. I know the site itself has a cafe with good reviews but we're not sure if it will be open. I have emailed the site today to check this.
My Mother-in-Law is a diabetic so does need to eat at regular times and it would give both my FIL and hubby peace of mind to know we can get a hot meal on the 1st night to save him from cooking

There's countless places. The Griffin in Godshill is cheap and cheerful, you could head into Ventnor for virtually ANY food you wanted, from fish and chips (ocean view is YUMMY!) to Tapas. Everywhere will be open, as should I expect the take away on site. Have stayed at appuldurcombe before, stayed at Chine farm for 10 days earlier in August. Have a fab time! Some lovely places to eat - The Spyglass in Ventnor is fantastic, Robert Pattinson was spotted there you know! Shout if you want more info! (On food, not R-Pattz!)
The fish and chips at Ocean View sounds great and we'll probably check out The Spyglass as well. I expect the takeaway will be open during our stay but if it's closed on the Sunday at least we now have some recommendations.
I've never been to IOW and can't wait now - 2 whole weeks off work

I've had an email back from the site and the cafe opens at 5pm although I think they said that after 11 Sept it then closes for the season. So, sorted for the Sunday evening
Ashwellgirl - what pitch were you on? We've been allocated no. 6 so we're hoping it's a good one!

I'm sooooo jealous! I wanna go back to IOW! But we're going to Pillaton this weekend, and just booked up for the meet too so enough to see me through the next few weeks at least.
Well, we're back and I'm totally in love (with the Island)
We had a fabulous time and there is just so much to see and do as well as doing all the usual touristy things. We could have easily filled another week if not more and we had 2wk stay as it was!!
Ocean View chippy just outside Ventnor lived up to it's recommendation (we used them twice), the onsite cafe at Appuldurcombe was very good and the staff were lovely and friendly. The food at "The Worsely" pub in the village of Wroxall was also good - pub grub, good portions. "The Bugle" at Yarmouth was also really nice.
I will be doing a review of Appuldurcombe and our stay so check campsite reviews ....
We loved it so much that I'm already planning a return visit, poss next year in May or June. Although hubby is still wanting to go to Mull as one of our "main" hols but I bet I win!

Glad you had a great time. I enjoyed our holiday some years back now on the IOW. Now about Mull - best time in May/June - especially if you want to see puffins and go whale watching and the sea eagles will be easier to see because the chicks will have hatched and need feeding. There's a variety of pubs in various places and some very good eateries - the fish and chip van on the fisherman's pier at Tobermory is very good, too. Cafe Fish in Tobermory is fantastic. However, it's a lot wilder than the IOW and there's only thirteen miles of twin track road - you can easily get to two of the campsites, both with EHU, without having to go on the single track roads, though.
