Hi all,

My family and I are new to camping and have had two very different experiences so far, the first was at a very noisy site with loud music being played from several tents until 3 in the morning and long queues for dirty showers and toilets.

This was almost our first and last camping trip but we decided to have another try and were so pleased that we did, we have been twice more to this site and now really have the bug. This site was Sherwood Forest Holiday Park (link below)

http://www.ukcampsites.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1778

It was a busy site but the toilets and showers were ample and always clean, despite being busy and lots of fun and games going on in the camping field, once in got to 10.30pm the noise stopped and it was very quite. It does say on the information you are given when you check in that noise must be kept to a minimum after 10.30pm but we didnt expect that rule to be so well observed.

We do love this site but would like to try others, as we are only going away for weekends at the moment, we dont want to travel too far.

So, my question, can anyone recommend any sites in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire that they have found to be clean and become quite at a reasonable time in the evening?

Thanks in advance.

Amanda

We love Sherwood Forest Holiday Park. Been twice this year and going again next week. You could try Greenhills near Bakewell - that was our 2nd choice if we couldn't get on at Sherwood.

Orchard Park at Tuxford near Newark is a lovely site - Orchard at the bottom and good level pitch. Smallish and quiet by night.

In the Peak District, try North Lees campsite near Hathersage and Upper Booth near Edale. They're both small, quiet tent-only sites and the people who run them are really helpful and will deal with any unreasonable noise. North Lees in particular is great because there's always lots of space between groups of tents - it was apparently fully booked when we were last there, and there was still tons of space - we couldn't hear a thing from any other tents!
