I'm an early to bed in the main camper, however, I've nothing against people enjoying themselves, socialising with other campers and making a noise...none whatsoever...so longs the noise stops after the curfew point!
If the camp site had no noise curfew rule then I either wouldn't go there, or realise I couldn't complain if I couldn't sleep because of the noise. If I'm on a site that has a noise curfew then I expect it to be adhered to and shouldn't feel that I'm a killjoy because others can't be drunken louts and flout the rules.

I feel rather sorry for those who need to be in bed by 9.30 every night and expect everyone else to comply. I guess some sites make it obvious that this is their policy, so they're the ones to head for if you're so inclined! We'll go elsewhere.
I think that the point is, if it's "a pleasant evening spent with friends, sharing a laugh and a glass of wine" then you're unlikely to be disturbing anyone else on the site, even people who are in bed by 9.30. The issue comes when people seem to think they have to shout to their friends who are sitting a few feet away from them so everyone within a few hundred yards can hear them. No-one minds normal talking at a reasonable level, but why would anyone want to have to listen to another group's conversation, whatever time of day it is?
I usually go camping with a group of up to 6 friends and we generally stay up till around 11 with a few beers and a pack of cards either in the tent or just outside it. Because we talk to each other at a normal volume, I doubt anyone else can hear us unless there's another tent right next to us (in which case we'd try to be extra quiet if we knew they'd settled down for the night). I don't see why some people think that enjoying yourself automatically means making tons of noise!
To the OP - we usually find that the smaller a campsite is and the fewer facilities it has, the more likely it is to be quiet. The reviews on here are quite helpful, although don't necessarily be put off by one or two reviewers who say there was someone noisy there - all campsites will get the occasional noisy group, it's more about how the owners deal with it if they're actually told about it (it's amazing how many people will complain afterwards about noise but not actually say anything to the people themselves or to the owners at the time!). There are lots of lovely quiet campsites around, it's just a case of finding them...
