As we generally go camping to sites that are not in the CCC we have never bothered to join. However we are starting to do some backpacking in prep for bigger things over coming years. What ive noticed is there are a lot of CCC sites tucked away in lots of places you wouldnt dream of looking for a site. This has got me thinking it may be worth joining, well is it?

What are peoples thoughts on the organisation is it worth joining?

We've been CCC members for 7 years. Although we do tend to stay on privately owned sites, you are right that some of the CCC sites are just in  the right location. Also they provide a good standard so you know what you are getting i.e. clean loos for the OH!!

I enjoy reading their magazine and have occassionally used their other member services. So for me it is worth the membership fee, even though we don't use their sites that often.

Can only suggest you give it a try  - you can always cancel after a year if you don't feel it's value for money...........

Hope that helps

Thanks its the smaller sites that would be of interest to me, some ive seen are basic farmers fields really but ideal for backpacking use. Ive found at leat three in the Lincolnshire Wolds that I cant find anywhere on the net but they have the old CCC sign on the gate etc.

Yes, many of the Certificated Sites are very suitable for backpacking, but check the site details carefully - quite a few are "own sanitation essential" ie just a drinking water tap and a chemical disposal point.

Another yes. We're members of C&CC & that's largely due to the locations of many of their sites. We like remote ! Also the other benefits of ferry reductions, discounted breakdown cover abroad etc. However we'd stay members even without that due to liking where they actually have their sites.
