Hi all, have booked a few days off for the kids half term week and would like to dissapear for a few days during this time with the caravan.

Any good ideas as to where to go??? bearing in mind the shorter days, so keeping the kids occupied after dark, maybe a family club/bar.

Now, i havent been to blackpool for 20 odd years and am considering this as a destination to go to due to the illuminations and pleasure beach. surely there lots to do in blackpool in october.

Any good sites there?????

thanks chris

Blackpool is great for the kids - ours are 12 and 7 and love it. Pleasure beach, blackpool tower ( thanks tesco ) keep them entertained. However, it can be an eye opener as well! Stag/hen do's are plentiful and the evening walk along the seafront can be entertaining. We go ever other year and stay at the caravan club site which is a couple of miles out. It always rains and blows a gale but, hey, it's blackpool!

We went to Blackpool a few years ago with the Caravan our son enjoyed, but the site we stayed on has since closed.

Also another idea is Matlock Bath we spent another Oct half term there. You have Gullivers Kingdom there which is great, Abrahams Heights where the cable car goes and when we went there was a festival of lights on the river. No where near the scale of Blackpool but we enjoyed it - boats all lite up with lights in shapes like 'Delboys car', the Dr Who Tardis etc. We found lots to do in the area. On Sundays there were lots and lots of motorbikes lining the street which were really interesting even for those who dont like bikes,

We stayed here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2664

We looked into going Blackpool for weekend but have instead decided we're just goona go for the day in a couple of weeks.

We're gonna book up for Ty Mawr at Towyn for 3 nights during half term. (sunday to Weds is only 45 quid in total). I know it'll be going dark early but at least theres plenty of entertainment on site to keep our 2 young daughters happy. Never been before but reviews look good and its Haven style site so we know what we're getting.

Went to Blackpool last year at halloween half term, had a great time. Were there Monday to Friday, spent all day in Blackpool, a couple of nights we were there until 9pm. didnt see any hen/stag parties. Probably mostly seen at weekends.
Stayed at Knepps Farm, really good site.

Blackpool is much better midweek, we always used to go for whit week, didn't do much over the weekend but things were much quieter during the week.

Keep your eye on the blackpool tourism website for firework displays etc at the end of the illuminations, also the pleasure beach occasionally does some good deals out of season, we are only 6 miles down the coast near Lytham, it can be sunny here whilst peeing it down a few miles inland, but if it blows,it blows!!

Lytham is also a lovely victorian town with a great victorian style shopping centre, worth a visit if you like that type of thing!

I've just had a few days on business in London and the weather there and all the way home is exactly the same as here at the moment, not a north south divide to be seen anywhere!

I live in blackpool, theres still plenty to do in oct - not sure of sites maybe use the camp site search on here ?
just a tip for you though if you are going to the pleasure beach - you save money when you book online. If it rains there is always sandcastle waterworld or the tower.
There is a haven site here - marton mere but its a little out of the way of the town centre then again all the camp sites. I have actually stayed on the marton mere site when I was younger, hope you find somewhere

the free friday night fireworks have started I think.  Heard it on local radio and they run for quite a few weeks as a comp to find the best display teams.

There is cala gran site too, large but ok if you want stuff for kids.
