Have you thought about heading to the Peak District? You can get there in an hour and a half from Leeds and there are tons of sites to choose from so you should be able to find one that suits you. I like it along the Hope Valley (Hathersage, Hope, Edale, Castleton etc), it has very good bus & train services so you can get from one village to the next without worrying about finding somewhere to park, and it's really beautiful scenery, or maybe near Buxton, Bakewell or Matlock as there are plenty of things to do in the towns if the weather's not so good.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Our favourite 'local' site is Knight Stainforth in Settle. Have a look at the info and reviews on this site.
The EHU pitches are a good size but if you don't need EHU you can just pitch where you like in the middle of the field.

thats quiet and has a shop (or one close by). A small play area would be nice but not totally essential.
If anyone knows somewhere with a fishing lake (or one near by)too that would be ideal.
We are looking to go Monday to Friday at the end of September but just want a chill out week.

You have just described Woodhouse Farm
Just had a look at that one myself, and that's the first site I've seen that charges extra for tent extensions.
Sorry, but in my opinion if the overall footprint (tent & extension) is within the prescribed pitch size, why should I pay more than another family with a larger tent (ie same footprint) but no extension? I accept them charging for oversize tents that take up more than one pitch, but if I'm paying a fee for a set sized pitch, I'll put up what I want.
Next thing you know they'll be adding £1 a night for windbreaks and another 50p each for putting your chair and table outside.

Try the Vale of Pickering site Kids playground 5acre playing field/dog walk and fishing down the road at wykeham lakes and they take big tents
