As a follow on from this post which asks the same question, has anybody ever been charged extra for a "large" tent as there web site says tent pitch size is 6 x 6 metres which in my book is small.

Previous post suggestions were to ask the relevant site, but my cynicism tells me that the moment you state your tent is bigger than the said 6 x 6 they have the perfect excuse to pile on extra charges.

What I'm really getting at is have people simply booked and turned up with "large" tents bigger than the 6 x 6 and had no problems?

We usually get our last camping week in at a Haven site as they are dirt cheap out of school holidays this time of year, but I thought we may try Park this year.

Only ever stayed at Park Resorts once (Ty Mawr) and our pitch was definitely bigger than 6m x 6m so they could all be different.

When we were there the site security came round twice a day to check our booking tags (which had to be tied to the tents) and they definitely don't let you get away with anything. My son was trying to put up a small beach shelter to sit in for a BBQ (it was very windy and he wanted shelter) and they came and told us we could be charged for a pup tent if we didn't take it down immediately.

My advice would be to check before you go and then there will be no nasty surprises.

we have just stayed at a park resorts site (skipsea sands) and the pitch was a lot bigger than 6x6.  I have heard that some of their sites do have small pitches though so as previous post has said i would give them a quick ring and ask first.

Definately check with the site direct to check pitch size.
I agree with kar.en - they seem pretty strict, so if the size is 6m x 6m then I wouldn't suggest going over that without declaring it!!
You will probably be charged extra (possibly even for 2 pitches) but at least you will know before you go so no nasty surprises on arrival.

A bit off topic but I enquired about pitch sizes at one of the Haven sites and was told maximum tent size of 4M X 4M

As our tent is 7.4M X 3.7M I asked if I could book 2 adjoining pitche and was told because of the pitch lay out that is not possible.

4M x 4M seems VERY small, regardless of prices at Haven

I've been to several Haven sites and have regularly seen tents bigger than 4mx4m. It may well be something to do with the layout on that particular site

Thanks for all the replies.

Having read a few mixed reviews I'm not exactly sold on Park anyway, but I do accept that asking about the pitches would reveal any extra charges up front.

As for Haven they usually say unit size under 21 feet, but I have been told that it is all down to the pitches available at individual sites. All Haven sites I've been to so far accept large tents no problem.

Hi we have been to 3 park resorts sites this year and not had any problem with my brothers tent which is a 10 berth Hi gear Kalahari with Porch and a windbreak too. I would give them a ring just to check but i don't think you will have a problem.
