Just been given a rough quote by a campsite in Jersey for a ferry for next summer of £720 .Yes you are reading it right SEVEN HUNDRED AND TWENTY POUNDS!!! for a Portsmouth -Jersey return all because I have a large (Bailey Ranger 620 ) caravan .This I was informed has to go on the slower boat ,but how can Condorferries justify this price??
This is just because they are the only ferry company that goes directly to Jersey, so they are able to hold you by the short and curlies!!
Any other alternatives of getting to Jersey with my caravan would be gratefully appreciated

I think you answered this question yourself.

Do ferry's go from France to Jersey? It's a shorter distance so might be cheaper? If you've got plenty of time, cross Dover-Calais (or cheaper still, Dover-Dunkirk), drive down to Normandy/Brittany and take a cheaper ferry to Jersey (if one exists?) Just an idea, don't know if it would work though. I would cross to France, get to Brittany, have second thoughts and head for Provence!!
The other thing is you say the campsite has given you the price. You might get a better deal if you go straight to Condor, or book through the Caravan Club. Then book the site seperately.

Just wondering... are you actually allowed to take a caravan to Jersey?? I know that a few years back, we couldn't take our Motor Home as they said it wasn't allowed if you had sleeping and cooking facilities aboard.
Yes you can take caravans to Jersey and NO the route to France to Jersey has now been shut down.so a monopoly on this route has been had by yours faithfully CONDOR Ferries!!!

Out of interest, how much do they charge for for a container lorry? Anyone know?
Coaterboy, I take it you've had a bad experience in France but I have to say that I have encountered far more robbing bar stewards and soap dodgers here in the UK.

Not entirely relevant to this forum but a number of rally people attending the Jersey car rally 8/9/10th October do take vans over. A number of them use travel agents rather than booking direct. When you think these guys have transits and trailers with rally cars on, prices seem to be lower. OK, time of year different, but does seem, even late in season, a price differential through an agent and direct. Worth investigating???

Jersey is an awkward one as far as freight is concerned not had the pleasure of pricing up a Jersey job for a while but they had width and length limits that made me tear my hair out and you then needed a permit for the truck so it was easier to give it to a specialist channel island haulier.
just looked at their condors website you need to book your camping through the campsite as for your caravan they have to issue an entry ticket, and condor can't book a caravan on their site.
