Hello everyone, coming to the end of another enjoyable year of caravanning. However do you agree with me but site fees, both club and private, are increasing beyond belief. Are we still in depression or has some kind of miracle happened.I strongly feel due to the increase in people holidaying at home site owners are taking advantage of the situation. Its time to make a stand collectively and demand prices are brought down to acceptable levels.
What do you think?. regards john

site fees, along with everything else have gone up, and will go up another 2% when VAT goes up.

more of a case of supply/demand more demand, less avaliability, so the prices go up, I remember about 6 years ago when we first got our van, you could go oit in the middle of summer without booking and have a choice of sites, now you are lucky to find one if you book 2 weeks prior.

not managed to use and THS this year, so cant comment on the price of these, but the club sites I have used have been the same as last year (although I do prefer the feild and tap variety)

Campsite owners will price what the market can stand,  if short of bookings they will then advertise special offers.

Vote with your feet,   but if you want an all mod cons site then you will have to pay.

On the other hand,  we use CS sites and THSs and rallies average this year £6.00 a night per unit cheap and cheerful,

So if you want to keep the price down,  will look for you at the next THS

Just for interest, only once this year did the site full sign appear on a THS site that we were on.  So lots of availability for those that want them.

What do I think? I think sites are expensive at peak periods, like all holidays. It's supply and demand.

I also think you've posted this in the wrong section - Towcars and Towing Advice - so to make it relevant I'll advise that you use your towcar to tow your van to a site outside of the school holidays!

Thing is what is an"acceptable" level?

I always budget a MAXIMUM of £30 per night for a large tent with extension, 2 adults, 1 teen, 2 children and a dog (and often 2 cars) which to us offers good value for money. To some that will be way too expensive and others will think that's a cheap per night price!
I have also been to the C&CC meets which cost us just £5 per night during the school summer holidays.
I have friends who never pay more than £15 per night (2 adults and 2 children) and another friend who happily pays over £50 per night during peak season.

The thing is sites are full so the demand is there - if people are willing to pay then sites will charge the highest rates they can. They are a business not a charity.
If you personally think a site is too expensive then you are entitiled to vote with your feet and find somewhere else. You will never get a situation where all sites charge the same fee.

It's not just site fees that have gone up - everything has, from food to petrol, clothing to heating and prices are set to go up even more in January when VAT increases take effect.

There are plenty of sites available with varying price ranges so there is something out there that will suit everyone.

As already said its supply & demand and site owners are earning a living. You can't blame them for getting it while they can. Everything else is going up (except for wages!)

We have not paid over £15/night for caravan, ehu,2 peoples & dog this season.

We only charge £9 per night, £2 extra if you want electric. We also offered a couple of special offers 7 nights for the price of 6 in August, and our September 4 for 3 offer. We have spotless shower/toilet facilities, a lovely flat quiet field, what more do you want? Our only problem is we are located in Mid Wales, ideal if you want to get away from everything, but no good if you want big tourist facilities

Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.

This one's been done too many times before to mention maybe a read of this thread will help a little - we as site owners are also attributed the additional costs that you guys at home are  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=4&TopicID=229830

We have just been away for 4 weeks, using CLs which ranged from £8 to £10 per night. Only the last one had loos and showers, but that doesn't bother us. I object to paying more than £13.

Yeah me 'n' all. Even then it brings a tear to my eye. On a recent trip to Scotland we drove out of quite a few sites as they were simply asking way to much and we just wont cough up. As mentioned, vote with your wheels, dont pay these stupid over inflated prices, they will soon get the message.

Steve
