Just wondering where the best / nearest caravan site is to go skiing if I travelled through Euro tunnel??
I would have to travel from the North West to Folkstone then onwards from there. Newish to caravanning would I need snow chains?? are they compulsory??
Are there other tips to prevent icing up when on sites??
thanks gang..

I think you should ask on the Caravanning Abroad forum, sure I have seen some on there that go ski-ing.

I would not bother with the Eurotunnel, I would tie a rope to the back of the ferry and ski over to France....
------------- Just remember, if it is older than yours, smaller than yours but next to yours, there is probably no credit owing on it...

Hi 1063roberts, you will find information on this topic if you search on the abroad forum as mentioned above.
However, probably the nearest and easiest site to get to is at Samoens. Its a very straightforward journey and the site is adjacent to the ski lifts.
You MUST carry snow chains, and its essential you have practised putting them on in the UK before you go. You may never need them, especially on the Samoens run, but if you do, you really do, and it is a legal requirement to carry them as you climb some roads in the Alps.
There are lots of tips about caravanning in the snow, for example use a bucket not a spouted container for waste water, its easy to empty a frozen bucket but impossible to empty the usual wastemaster in such situations. Make sure your inboard fresh water container is well insulated, or insulated and perhaps heated if an aquaroll. Take low wattage fan heaters with you and leave on low permantly. Take a slow cooker and leave cooking a stew/jacket potatoes etc so that you have a hot meal to return to (wonderful if you have kids who may fall asleep over dinner). Etc etc.
Prepare well and go for it, its great fun!
