Are you after a site recommendation???

We went for the first time in September this year and stayed at Appuldurcombe at Wroxall.  We sailed from Southampton to East Cowes on Red Funnel.  Some of the parks do 5 night deals which include the ferry.  You can usually get the ferry crossing a little cheaper if you book direct with the campsite.

Used to live nr Southampton as a kid and spent 15 years worth of summer holidays there. Hated the place. 20 years later braved it with oh +2. Since then been back two further times. Had 3 fantastic holidays. Traditional seaside holidays, totally relaxing place. Love going to Ryde watching the world sail by. Lots to see in such a compact island - from v.v flat to v.v hilly near Ventnor.

Yes there is some crap but the only thing stopping me going again is the British weather. Give me south of France I'm afraid. That said, give it a go but be aware of the most expensive short sea crossing in Europe ( i believe ) although Tesco vouchers help on the Portsmouth crossing

We stayed at Southlands this year in Sept. The site was lovely. It's split into 2 parts, a new hardstanding bit which looked a bit windswept, and imho, the nicer older part which is grassy and surrounded by tall hedges, although some of the pitches were a bit small. The road outside the site is not too good for walking to the village as it's quite busy with no path.

We weren't too impressed with the cycle routes on the IoW, as the roads generally are narrow and busy. We found three traffic free routes though.

P.S. A trip on the catamarran to Portsmouth to see Victory and HMS Warrior was fabulous ! We caught the 'Tube' from Sandown to Ryde !
