Maybe a bit chicken with my caravan but I don't go via Hillsborough/Sheffield. Once you turn right after the football ground you enter a shopping area and traffic can be a bit tight, especially if there are deliveries and you are weaving round vans!!! My van is a four berth with fixed bed/end washroom so you can get an idea of the size. If yours is the same you may like to consider this alternative - leave the MI at J30 onto the A619 to Chesterfield. When you get to Chesterfield you go left onto a dual carriageway. Take the first exit (after about a mile) and the road U turns under the dual carriageway and turn left. Into the second lane to turn right at roundabout and then straight on at each set of lights/roundabouts using signposts to Chatsworht out of Chesterfield on the A619. Once you pass the Chatsworth CC site in Baslow there is a roundabout so straight on to Calver (A623) and then to the Tideswell/Bradwell/Hucklow turn where you turn right (B6049). Keep on that road to the junction (traffic Lights) after Bradwell/Brough at Hope. Turn left and through Hope and Loosehill is on your right.
From the Loosehill site (walking) turn right and just along the road, after Loosehill Hall (on your right) there is a footpath signposted to your right. Take this and at a fork go right around the back of Loosehill Hall. Just after you pass the hall there is a footpath sign to your left up towards a farm. It is signposted Loosehill. Take this and the path is easily marked right on up to the top of Loosehill. At the top turn left and walk along the "Great Ridge" to Hollins Cross and then continue to Mam Tor. From Mam Tor there is a stepped route downhill. At the foot, through the kissing gates and turn left heading for Treak Cliff. Over the hill to Peak Cavern and then down the road into Castleton. Instead of turning left at the kissing gates keep straight on (path obvious) and that takes you to the top of Wynnats Pass. For a diversion at Hollins Cross turn right and follow the path down into Edale and then along the road into the village (toilets) walk on past the toilets and soon there is a path to your left. Follow this as far as you can (just past a house) and then there is a signed path (to your left) either to Hollins Cross or turn immediately right on this pathor up to Mam Tor.
The views from Hollins Cross over Edale to the North; Hope Valley to the South; Stanage Edge (better seen from Mam Tor or Back Tor) in the East and Kinder Scout in the West are to die for.
Difference between the Lakes and the Peak District? No queueing on the footpathes and hills.
If you have the time walk to Hope and in the village turn left into Edale. Half a mileish down that road veer off to the right signposted to a farm (name escapes me) under the railway. Follow the path/drive up to the farm (very steep). Through the Farm yard and up onto Winn Hill. Down the other side to the woods around Lady Bower and cross the reservoir onto the main road and turn right and walk into Bamford. Continue down the hill and turn right at the main Hathersage/Castleton Road and onto the Hope Garden Centre for lunch. Walk back to the camp Site.
Just so many walks around that neck of the woods. If you are doing Wynnats Pass...walk down it rather than up!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy
Phil
