We're looking to book our summer 2011 break and looking for experienced advice for where to go please. We live in Dumfries, south west Scotland and are happy to travel quite far south, just looking for recommendations of somewhere with plenty to do to suit family of four, kids age 8 and 5.
Thank you very muchly!

Everyone has their own idea of the ideal site, can you narrow it down a bit, i.e. countryside or seaside, large commercial site or quiet site, close to large town or remote.
Hi Bernie,
Thanks for your prompt reply. We would like to go in season (as last year we went too early, thinking it would be good to go early July before English hols and it was way too quiet!) we would like a site with entertainment so we can take it or leave it, on-site swimming pool and probably close to other entertainment/amenities. Does that sound like too many requests?! We are a young family so just looking for a good holiday with plenty to keep us amused!
We went to Flower of May at Scarborough last year for ten days and had a great time, just a shame it was too early in season as they did not cater for us Scots on holiday! No entertainment at all!
Thank you.
Have you tried this http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/calcdist.asp
Use the refine list on the left of page, then click on the area you wish to visit, bottom of page how many miles 5, 10 etc update and it will show you the sites in that area.

if its not too far i would say cornwall . lots to do no matter what the weather beautiful beaches a big area to pick from but that narrows it down. we used to try and go early. we finish a week before the english break up and its great, you miss the traffic travelling down.
if not down to the south coast dorset has some nice sites and places.
if you look at the area first then you can decide on sites next.
Woolacombe - there is a group of 4 parks and you can use the facilities from all 4 parks if you wish. We have been in the quiet season and there is still entertainment - each park has its own swimming pool inside and outside. theres lots to do in the area as well. If you want the beach you can either drive or catch their yellow bus.
Norfolk is also nice and may have less traffic than some of the area in the West.
We have stayed in Searles holiday resort in Hunstanton. It is a big holiday park with lots going on, which you can either join in or not. Have friends who went early July and said that the entertainment was on and was less crowded than when they had been in peak season, in August.
just an idea i always think of an area then go on to their tourist information and send for a brochure . this tells you what there is to see plus gives list of places to stay and a few caravan sites as well.
have you not thought of ukcs meet chy carne its on ere in meets it be a long way for you but supose you can stop on way clarcks work hard on makin it a good do
Another vote for Norfolk ! Got everything except motorways which I hate. Go before the schools in England break up and you might creep in before the prices hit the peak. Vauxhall ,Searles or Haven all have the entertainment on, swimming pools etc.A boat trip on the Broads is a must, likewise a visit to Gt. Yarmouth...Mick

Would totally recommend the Chy Carne meet in Cornwall, we've been for two years running and had a fantastic time each time. The only reason we are not going again this year is that we have done the same area in Cornwall for past 4 years so thought we'd try the North Cornwall coastline, If you do decide to travel the distance I don't think you'll be disappointed. Take a look on the Meeting Up Section, South West. There is a thread for this years meet and one for last years meet where you can read all the messages left by those who attended. Great holiday for a fantastic price in my opinion.
