Hi all,

I'm hoping some of you more travelled caravanners can help us in choosing a site for our summer break. We want to travel on 20/08/11 for 10 nights, and would like a site near Putsborough. Although I have done the search of the area, and looked at many sites I just can't decide.

We are a family of 5 (three kids 5 - 10, and will hopefully be joined by 3 other families. All caravans with awnings.

We want a site which has preferably:
Beach Access
Playground
Allows dogs
Full Service Pitch (not essential, Electric Hook up is though)
Sea Views
On site or neaby pool
easy access to a town or village.

If anyone has stayed at a site which seems to match please let me know.

Many many thanks Ali xx

Thanks again Ali

Hi, Ali, I think Jusy meant have you tried the "Refine Search" boxes on that link.
Ticking most of your boxes then eliminating the non-coastal sites only leaves five or six for you to choose from.     (Link)

I know North Devon fairly well and can't think of any site that ticks all of your boxes particularly with regard to direct beach access. Putsborough Sands site has  the nearest access situated right on the cliff tops but it is only small and little apart from the beach for the kids.See here. Personally I would recommend Easewell Farm Park part of the Woolacombe Bay group or Twitchen Park also in the same group to get to the nearest beach at Woolacombe you need to drive or catch the groups open top bus which tours their four sites to take families to Woolacombe. Ruda Park at Croyde might be a possibility as this a fairly short walk from the beach.A popular place with loads to do for the kids is Stowford Meadows but this is about 3 miles from Ilfracombe and 6 from Woolacombe.

Napps, our favourite site of all time ticks all your box's and is very dog friendly even in the bar as the owners are dog mad

They havent allowed reviews on this site for a couple of years now but dont let that put you off, trust me its a real gem. I simply love looking out of our van window to that view...

Hi Ali, no we wasn't there for the sept meet but was there about 10 weekends during 2010.

Google 'napps', as they removed my link to their website, it really is great and as i said it ticks all your box's.

Small world eh, were in thornfield crescent, how about you?

Worst site we have ever stayed on and worst holiday we have ever had by far. I really can't imagine why anyone would recommend this site. Every one bar none was complaining about something/everything when we were there. Truly awful place which is a real shame because if it was better run and better organised it could be great because as said before the views do take some beating.

Apologies to those who say they like it, nothing personal but I cant understand why.

As for dog friendly, we have a Border Terrier who is very well behaved and rarely barks, usually only at the postman. However, one afternoon when we were there there was a dod barking on a nearby pitch while it was playing with the kids and the site owners came over to us and had a right go at us about the noise 'our dog' was apparantly making which didn't go down well with us considering the issues we already had with this site.

We didn't stay 'til the end of our booking on this site, we'd had enough. Our friends who were with us didn't even stay as long as us.

rich2818.. as quoted by you "I really can't imagine why anyone would recommend this site." heres my reply.

Sea views...probably the best by far

Full service pitch...with water and waste on all pitches apart from tent pitches

Pool...refurbished spring 2010

Allows dogs...The site owners who took over early in 2008 are mad about dogs

Beach access...ok down a few steps, but what a fantastic beach it is

Playground...fantastic, new 2009

Village...the picturesque village of Berrynarbor only half a mile away

Bar...refurbished 2010 if you fancy a pint

Not to mention the newly reburbished toilet/shower block and the brand new one in the upper camping area.

Now, not sure if you noticed rich2818 but these are an exact match to what was requested..hence the reason i recommended.

Hope you can now imagine why i would recommend, no offence and i understand your not being personal. I also read your review of Napps and cant understand where you may of had problems on the slight hill there..and burnt out clutches on a saturday afternoon?...must of been some old cars there while you were there. Nothing personal, just cant understand why.

We have booked 3 seperate weeks at Napps for 2011 plus easter weekend.

Chris

I notice you say it was taken over in 2008. we were there in summer 07 obviously at a point were the previous owners must have been past caring and standards must have slipped way below acceptable through knowing they were leaving. The reviews up to that point speak for themselves I am curious though about if the new owners have made such big improvements why they wont allow any new reviews.

As regards my own review it is factual. Even though site standards must now be much better nothing much can really be done to improve outfit manouverability on this site due to its location and how steep and narrow the roadways and terraces are. Some vehicles were having extreme difficulty and it was an almost new vectra that finished up with a burnt out clutch.

I do agree with your points about views, surrounding area etc but along with other reviewers I can only speak from my own experience and I do not intend or wish to get into an argument over it on here. we all have our own experiences and opinions and forums are for sharing them. We don't neccesarily have to agree. I'm not going to fall out with anyone on here for sharing our experiences.

I  too have stayed at Napps, and I agree that it is probably the worst site that I have stayed at. If you are forced to stop going uphill whilst towing then its very hard to get started again.

The toilets were cleaned often but at no set times, so when you finally walked down the steep site to the toilets they were often closed whilst being cleaned.

The beach is nice but is by no means easy access, and the pitches are very small.

But as they say each to their own tastes!
