Hi All

Who can give me the best site???

Last year we had fab - but mossi ridden! - week in June at Wareham Forest. The dilema is whether to return or go to Cofton in Devon.

Has anyone been to both sites? We are a party of two families, with four children aged between 5 and 7. Bikes are a must, we know that Wareham has the Skia Cycle Trail next door and the kids have the freedom of using their bikes in the campsite woods. What about Cofton - is bike riding good there for the children?

Wareham Pool is a bit cold - Cofton reports suggest that it is warmer??

Any thoughts would be gratefully received

Not been to Wareham but really liked Cofton, the walk from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish is lovely and Dawlish Warren is walkable from the site. Pool looked good but we did go out of season.  As Ang says the actual site is a bit hilly but there are level parts, have you looked here?

I have not stayed at Wareham Forest, only visited to recce the place, and thought against it as it does not have many pitches with grass and EHU for tents.

Whereas Birchwood further up the road has plenty of grass pitches with EHU, and I loved it there. Mind you, I did not need a pool or outdoor playing area etc., so Birchwood suited me better.

I did not cycle much except for riding around the campsite a few times with my dog running next to me on a lead - that was quite enough for us both!

As for Cofton, I stayed there during the New Year weekend in 2009, and loved it, even though all the facilities were closed except for the toilets and shower blocks. I can imagine it being a very nice site in the warmer months.

Cofton is closer to the beach at Dawlish Warren, Birchwood is further away from the beach, however, I liked going to Sandbanks, as it has more areas where dogs are permitted to roam off lead.

I regularly visit both sites and would say Cofton is not the best of places for bikes due to the hilly nature of the site as already mentioned.

The mozzies at Wareham can be a problem unless you go equipped with the correct gear. As for pool temps, I find both of them fine.
