My best friend will be 40 in June and we are trying to plan a birthday weekend for her. Finance is an issue for several of the potential guests so we have had an idea to keep costs down but are struggling to find the right accommodation.
Our idea is to rent a cottage (or similar) that would sleep 4-6 perhaps but that has an attached field were another 10-12 could camp. Not everyone wants to camp and we would also like the privacy and facilities a cottage would offer. We are looking ideally for somewhere in the Midlands as people will be coming from all points north, south and even Wales!
If you know of any such accommodation and/or can point me in the right direction for a appropriate search engine I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Maybe try googling for campsites with B&B accomodation also - there are many such sites. Or what about going somewhere with static caravans and camping? It's easy to find such sites with the UKCS search engine. Put the wimps in the caravans If you're lucky there might even be somewhere where you can put the tents fairly close to a couple of statics for non campers. I suppose that wouldn't really help on the privacy side of it though

perhaps not what you had in mind but renting out a hostel might be an idea

this place starts at ~15GBP/person/night

Thank you for your comments folks.
We are a bunch of 40 something party animals (apart from a couple of "babies" in their twenties) so the privacy afforded by renting a cottage is important to us. This is for the sake of any potential neighbours as well so the idea of a campsite with B&B doesn't really work.
We are not looking for Wales, we are looking ideally for the Midlands.
The hostel idea might just have legs, we would potentially have the privacy but would the accommodation be a little basic maybe?

Depends what you define as basic. Will likely be some dorm type rooms but plenty have en suite rooms. Fully equipped kitchens, large dining facilities, open fires. Stayed in some that have deals with the local shops and brewers to get all your provisions ready and waiting

Maybe basic was the wrong word. We are almost all couples and as such want double beds which I would not expect in hostels. However, I do like the sound of deals with shops and brewers!!

Not sure if you're coming down this way but found this in Dorset:

Farm cottages, and if you see their website they have several fields suitable for group camping.  No EHU though.
