Hi Glennbo,
Are you a member of Camping and Caravan Club? Even if not you can still stay on the sites, its just more expensive. We stayed at the Slapton sands site and really enjoyed it. There is a limit of 8 caravans on the site (local by-laws I suspect - members only) although Motorhomes are allowed. As a resultt you do get a lot of tents which is a pleasant change for tenters.
Beach and village easily walkable from the site and a good bus service in both directions to Dartmouth one way and Kingsbridge the other. Being C&CC they are required to keep to a standard re shower blocks and spaces between pitches.
Long stretch of beach and Slapton Ley nature reserve just down the road. nice walk along the beach to Torcross which has some good pubs and eating places. Also starts a coastal path walk. Couple of nice pubs in Slapton village serving good food and the chip van comes to site once a week (not to be missed if you are there as everything is cooked fresh) and is very popular.
Not sure about a playground but check out the website.
