I am thinking about trying this site but can't find any reviews/comments about it. Is this because they don't allow reviews or that nobody has reviewed it. From the website it looks a lovely site but if anyone has used it can they give any information about it. ie. what the toilet/shower is like, anywhere for exercising dogs off lead and what the access roads are like.

Many thanks

Hi - we stayed at Drakeshouse before they put the new road in and the hardstanding. Its a lovely quiet site - think it may be Adults only. When we stayed the shower and loo were perfectly adequate and fairly roomy. The lady running it is really friendly and helpful.

The road to the site is a country road but wide enough for any unit.

We are hoping to visit again this year as is local to us for a quick after work getaway

Hope this helps

Yes thanks Linsee, very helpful. I've just emailed her to ask if there is anywhere on site or off site to exercise dogs, preferably off lead. Was there anyne on site with dogs when you were there? My worry is if its an area with sheep, where will we be able to walk with our dogs off lead, they do like to go adventuring!

There was a couple with a dog but to be honest as we are not doggie people I didn't take notice where they excercised. There is a field next door but cannot remember if it had sheep. Just down the lane there is a large caravan site called Three Rivers and there are dogs on there.  Further down aways in the village you can get to a path beside the river, there are lots of open spaces nearby, but dare say Ann will be able to advise better than me.

We stayed there with some friends for a weekend last November. Unfortunately we were at opposite ends of the site, even though they knew we were "together", dont' know the reason behind that, but never mind.

It is very nice, and they do have a WC/shower/washbasin, but it was NOT heated when we were there, I tried the shower on the first day, but it was freezing (the water was not that hot and when you stepped out of the shower it was really cold), so used the shower in the van instead after that. Cost was £15 per night, which I thought was a bit pricey really, and it is adults only.

In summer they only take bookings for a minimum of a week, in winter they accept weekend bookings.

We went for a really nice walk, left out of the site, right at the end of the lane, then follow the path up, and up, and up....then eventually turned right and right again, and back. Nice views.

Thanks Ina, i'm wondering if February is too early for a site without heated showers! Call me a wimp, but maybe this should be a summer site!

I'm a wimp too in that case! The friends we went with had been before, last March I think, and they said that there was one of those heaters on the wall then, but it wasn't there in November!!

The WC/shower/washbasin is in a building which is just brick/breeze-block, not decorated or anything inside, so breeze-block inside too, which does not make for warmth. The shower cubicle has been finished with those panels I think, but it was definitely far from what you would call warm. Therefore, having to use our own shower I thought the £15 was a bit on the pricey side, when you think that some of the CC sites charge less than that at this time of year, and they DO have properly heated toiletblocks.

We haven't used any CL sites before because we do like to use 'nice' facilities. I think that some CLs are better equipped than others. Also somewhere to walk our dogs off lead is important to use as well. Also what someone's idea of 'good' facilities is not what someone else would think, so thank you saying it how it is! Thats what i wanted to hear.

I'll keep searching for a suitable one - i like the look of Puddle Cottage near Blackpool so maybe we'll try there. I'm sure you can build up a selection of sites with facilitie to suit - its just finding them in the first place. That is why this site is so good because someone always seems to have the information you're looking for!

Thanks again, Ina.

Must admit that during late autumn, winter and early spring we too tend to stick to the main sites for that reason.

Yes, we have used our own facilities when necessary, we've stayed on CL's with no shower, in which case, fair enough. But as far as I'm concerned, if you offer an all year site, with WC/shower facilities, then they should be heated during the winter months.

Haven't been to Puddle Cottage, but we did stay at Manor House a few years ago: LINK HERE

At that time they were finishing the shower, which did look very good, but when we were there it was not finished, so cannot comment on that. Immaculate site though, again adult only. Not been back as we are not really Blackpool people, but it was somewhere new to try.

Superb CL,our 4th visit here, all are serviced pitches,Adult only. The site is always full when we have been, but we are flexible with our dates(luckily)

Owner very friendly and helpful. They let us use their computer in the house for maps and emails. They informed us about Clitheroe food fair and a local cider producer,we attended the open day and it was great fun.

Now realised that they have WI-Fi on site,so we will be sorted for next time.

Good tv and mobile phone reception.

Toilet block, fresh towels daily, soap, shower gel, toilet paper all provided.Warm and clean.

Quiet location, the grass was all really neatly cut and grass cuttings picked up.The sheep were on the other side of the fence when we were there and they were quiet.I am told when clipping took place in July they were noisy for a night as the lambs cannot find their mothers.

There is so much to do in this area and lots of beautiful villages and lovely walks from the site onto the fells. The 3millstones serves great food.

We did not have a problem with the price, there are no extras for us to pay. we had a car, caravan, awning, own water tap so we could connect our pipe direct into the caravan, and a drain direct to grey waste, that was wonderful.16amp electric, hard standing.no pay meters or tokens for the shower. Our dog was in with the price too.

A well run site with your name on the reception window on arrival so you know where to park.
