Hi
Was just wondering if anyone could recommend any particularly ASD/Aspergers friendly sites Cambs-Norfolk-Lincs area please?
Are there any other families/lone parents of special need children that 'meet up'??
Thankyou

Hi have a friend who has a child with Aspergers.
She dosent camp but always goes to normal everyday places, dosent try to look for places only suitable for her son.
They go to Portugal and just stay in apartments where everyone else is. Her son is now 12yrs and while he is still difficult at times is getting easier to handle.

Thanks, It's the personal recommendations for quieter sites I am looking for, plus the opportunity of sharing my time with other families in similar circumstances. There seems to be lots of 'meets' for various 'groups' of people, I wondered if there was one for what I was looking for.

Hiya you might have more response on the meet up page, I know I have read of some ppl on here who have special need kids but couldn't tell you off hand who they were or what area they r in.

A 'normal' meet mite not tick all the boxes but I'm pretty sure everyone would be understanding if you explained the circumstances before attending and mite be easier than going to a site full of strangers.

Hi there.
My son has autism and I take him to campsites without any problems. We usually head down to Bournemouth and also camp locally in Kent. This summer I'm taking the kids to a site in Holland - they have free go karts for kids, and I know my eldest would be made up with that.
My advice to you is, after having been on plenty of trips camping with my son and he's been fine I would try not to worry too much about it. I would opt for the quieter sites, if anything as if he's very hyper sensory it might benefit him?
Best of luck x

There's a very rural site that we go to, (sorry I misread you wanted recommendations) which is near Tunbridge Wells, if you didn't mind travelling too far. Manor Court Farm. It's on a working farm with chickens, sheep etc. It is very quiet indeed, and if your son likes planes...the flight path comes over the site, my son was obsessed with them. He was good as gold. There's also another site not far from there called Forgewood camping, which is brilliant. There are dogs allowed though. You can camp in the woods itself.

A little of beat,

but do you parents with little angels find they hate being away from there home there bed and there familular surroundings.my son always panics about leaving the home weather it be for 1 night week end or a week he doesnt quiet get it even though in the summer season weve been away most weekends for years.

thankfuly he tires himself out when away he drops off suddenly but sometimes this can be as late as 1am.I just wish sometimes i could go sleep and leave him watching tv.

Mr H, you may just have a good idea! Maybe we should all meet up some time!

Thankyou everyone for responding. It's reassuring to know that you all successfully camp with your children.

jaysere- My daughter would stay in the house 24/7 if I allowed it! lol

It's a fine balance of preparing them and not increasing the anxieties that anticipating change brings.
My daughter really has no concept of time (minutes, weeks etc) and I've found that using a visual (eg a calender & crossing off the 'sleeps' etc) can help.

Mr H,
I've just read your reviews and one thing that struck me is - you have a proper bath that the kids can use! lol

Many children with Autism have sensory 'problems' and most have aversions to showers, which to a child with sensory difficulties, physically hurts.

Mind you, I'm pretty sure that my daughter will do her best to avoid the bathtub too :O)

Hi Nessy2010,

Have you tried 'The National Autistic Society' which also has a Member's Forum site  I came across this site recently when looking for something similar.

Member's of our Family are joined to the 'Erb's Palsy' Group (Forum group,) they all meet up for a Summertime yearly big 'Fun Day' and several of the Family groups join up and Camp together on a nearby Campsite.

Hi this is a message for H of orchard campsite. I'm looking for somewhere with a little space and on the calmer side for my 19 year old none verbal autistic son. We've been on a practice camp in the church grounds. But looking to book something for the may/ June half term 2017 or summer holidays. Where are you and can you help. I was so pleased to see your response. It's something us autistic parents worry about. To avoid melt downs for all involved. I would hate to be in a situation where we felt we were not welcome. Because we have to deal with that all the time. Having a break is about being able to leave that behind.

Thanks kerryann
