I have stayed at Muasdale a couple of years ago. Views to die for but the site was not for me. We had a tent within 3 feet of our van with their guy ropes actually under the van. Fortunately the tent was occupied by a lovely friendly family but we still felt like sardines. I felt it was a little overcrowded and losing even a single pitch would have eased this a lot.
Mausdale charge for dogs but do not supply any facilities for them and therefore we would not use this site.
We have used Machrihanish and like it. There are lovely walks skirting the golf course and onto beautiful but quiet beaches, but the site itself can be a bit breezy. The village tearoom is good for lunches.
We looked at Carradle Bay and Portban but did not fancy them.

thx lobeydosser do you anything about killiegruer looks lovely but cant seem to gets reviews or stuff like that.
We have never used this site but the reviews look good and it is one that we will try this coming season.
Muasdale is right on the beach with direct access. It is their static vans on the other side of the road, whose occupants think nothing of wandering through your pitch enroute to the beach.

On checking Google Maps, I see that you are quite correct. However, their toilet/shower facilities are across the main road from the touring area.
However, as I stated earlier, we do not use caravan parks that charge for facilities that they do not provide for and Mausdale is one such park. They make a charge for dogs but have no provisions for them. I have twice emailed them asking why they do this but they have failed to answer any of my emails.
Giggle, they must have moved them because they were also on the touring side as well. I know they were planning to upgrade them so maybe they moved it across the road then We arrived after a very long drive of about 6 hours if I remember to be asked if " I minded waiting as the husband was out and he would know which pitch he wanted me on"!! Yes I did mind so I was reluctantly shown to one of 3 empty pitches to be told that I may have to move when he came in, that was never going to happen. I know other people in their reviews called them helpful, I found them intrusive and nosey to be honest. We always felt as though we were being watched, which most of the time we were, as their house opposite had the lounge upstairs and someone was "always on duty at the window watching" Still each to their own I suppose.

Machrihanish is probably the best site with the best location for walking. Also you are only a short walk along into Machrihanish if you fancy some food or a drink in one of the clubhouses. I don't fancy Muasdale or Killegruer due to the close proximity of the main road, the road at Killegruer is especially fast as your coming down off glenbarr hill...
thx folks
i email killegruer which the wife seems to like and i got a quick reply saying you get 7 nights for £90 and there is no additional charges for awning or dogs

Thanks Sinclair, Despite earlier comments with regard to the traffic, it looks like our kind of site, being next to the shore.
Killegruer is 103 miles from us and I guess we will be using it later this year.
