Hi,

I am starting a UK cycling and camping tour for the British Heart Foundation, starting on April 16th from Reading - Hastings then to Inverness and back, 1800 miles in 6 weeks. The full details are on andybiker.webfreehosting.net.

There is a camping page of all the potential campsites I plan to visit and when. There is also a tour page with a google map link and a zip file of individual cycling stages showing the main route I expect to take.

Camping alone, without power, wifi or washing/shower fees will cost me over £400, so I shall be asking the sites to waive their fees and even make a reverse donation, effectively paying me to stay there for the one or two nights (in a few cases) planned. Alternatively, a donation can also be accepted. These will be shown on the spreadsheet as I get confirmation from them.

Any comments and recommendations on the campsites and on the cycle routes are strongly encouraged. If people wish to join me on the tour either on road or at sites, please contact me before 15 April or by phone text during the tour.

The cycle speed will be an everyday roll of 10-15mph, capable by most riders easily, but I will be on a 30kg lump of loaded mountain bike, so no Tour de France speeds for me!!

I look to have a sponsorship webpage up very soon, courtesy of VirginMoneyGiving. The plan is to take a minimum of £10 for the tour per person or 30p per stage on my way to a £3000 initial target.

Organisations and people contributing £100 or more will be given a text link to the site address they specify. More money will add larger text, bold and underlining. Those giving £500 or more can have their company icon displayed (max 2500 pixels area [e.g. 50x50 pix]) throughout the site and hyperlinked on the sponsorship page at 10,000 -40,000 pixels area (100x100 - 200x200 pix).

Thank you for reading this post, which will appear on my website (above) my blog (andybiker.blogspot.com), my facebook page for andybiker.ntlworld.com and hopefully on UKCampsite.co.uk forum (UK Caravan Sites and Camp Sites) and CTC.org.uk forum (Touring & Expedition).

Thanks for reading this and contact me at andybiker at ntlworld.com or andybiker2011 at gmail.com with any thoughts, advice or support, financial or in person.

Regards all!

Andrew Sharp

Good luck with your trip.

I Cycled Coast and Castles route from newcastle to Edinburgh last year, the scenery is stunning.

Sorry not to be able to join you on any of the Northern sections of your trip,

All the best

Thanks Lorna,

I'm certainly looking forward to visiting Ashington again just after the Royal wedding.

I'm going to get a group e-mail together to book the sites and to see if they will accommodate me for free, even during all those holiday weekends!

Wish me luck and watch my sites to see who lets me stay free!

Hi. Good luck with the trip. You'll be coming close to me on the south coast so I'll be keeping an eye on your progress.

As a member of the C&CC, I'm very disappointed to read on your website that they won't be supporting you. At the very least, I would have thought they could let you have a free pitch. Did they give a reason?

Perhaps some of us on here can sponsor you for a couple of nights accommodation each.

I'm a great fan of the British Heart Foundation, particularly the support nurses who helped me through a difficult time after my heart attack seven years ago.

Richard

Thanks rjgukc,

I spoke to the CC on the phone and the lady enquired and rang me back, but they couldn't help with free accommodation for the 5 or 6 nights I would be staying with them, it'll be unofficially up to the individual sites to take me free of charge! A lot of fuss and nonsense over £100 if you ask me. Very disappointed with the HO attitude.

Anyone reading this can donate directly using uk.virginmoneygiving.com/andybiker and visiting that mini site.

On the tour, I will give out a business card with the details on for those who wish to donate when we meet, even using my laptop if you happen to be pcphobes!

Maybe see you in Hastings Richard!
