The C&CC site at Windermere is lovely - but miles from anywhere.

We went to Limefitt years and years ago - don't even know if it still exists but was absolutely fantastic when we went!

Park Cliffe is near Bowness/Windermere

Limefitt is still there - one of the bigger sites

Did you want within walking distance?

The C&CC Windermere site is great for caravanners, but unfortunately there are very few tent pitches and on the two occasions that I have been there tents were treated as a necessary evil.

I tried to book for Limefitt Park a couple of years ago, but when I rang the site number I was connected to a booking office in Liverpool or somewhere and told that dogs were not allowed.

If you don't need to be near a town I would recommend Low Wray, right on the lakeside.

We went to the national trust site Low Wray at Windermere last year.  It was absolutely lovely, beautifull surroundings.  Only bit of advice is dont pay the extra to camp next to the lake.  It gets very windy and cold.  A few people had a few restless nights whilst we were there.  We were in the field just behind which was absolutely fine.

The facities are ok, cleaned everyday and hot water which is all I ask for but there is no on site club house so if you want a bit more than a field with a clean shower and toilet in it you might want to look elsewhere.  If you do like a quiet get away though we thought it was lovely.

We had a few lovely holidays at Limefitt when it was family owned, last time we went it had been taken over by a Lakeland holiday company who were filling it with wooden lodges. I've seen on a couple of websites that they've not had any touring/camping pitches since 2009, such a shame, a great campsite ruined.

I looked at Park Cliffe overlooking Windermere but they didn't have pitches left for our dates, would like to try it there sometime. I agree that the C & CC club site looks good but is out in the sticks, quite pricey too.
