Can anyone recommend campsites in Northumberland -maybe Alnwick - we'll have two teenagers with us but don't want a large site with too many facilities. As long as we have a shower block and hook up - a pub within walking distance is a great bonus.
We are looking go go in August and haven't visited this area before so still need to investigate if there is plenty to do in the daytime.
Our evenings tend to comprise of BBQ's and a few drinks but nothing rowdy so I don't like sites that are really commercialised.
Last year we came on here for help with a campsite in Yorkshire and ended up with a site that was perfect for our needs so hoping that people can help us again.
Thanks

We stayed at Alnwick Rugby Club. Its a very basic site, but does have showers toilets etc and a little club house on site. It was cheap too. I am thinking of returning myself this summer!
Hi, would recommend Proctor's Stead. No clubhouse or bar on site(thank goodness) and they do have really good shower and toilet facilities. You can buy milk, eggs and fresh juice from the reception area. Nice quiet site and there is a good pub a 5 minute walk away. Craster is a lovely 15 minute walk from the site - famous for their kippers - and beautiful walks along the beach and coast. We went for a week last year and really enjoyed it, so much so that we're going back in May for another week.

And they are absolutely right - it was our first trip to Northumberland last year but we fell in love immediately - so beautiful and, more importantly, so unspoilt. You'll have a fabulous time wherever you end up staying, I'm sure :-)

We stayed at Springhill Farm last year. Great site with spotless facilities. Walking distance of Seahouses and a short drive (3/4mins) from fabulous beaches. Beautiful area and plenty of places to visit. Alnwick, Cragside, Holy Island, fishing/boat trips and a wonderful coastline.

We visited for the first time last year and absolutely loved it - so much so that it's going to be our first trip this year.
We stayed at Budle Bay campsite, which is very basic but suited us perfectly. It's definitely not the shiniest site in the area (toilet/shower blocks are a bit dated and there's no shop, etc) but there are hook ups and, most importantly, shelter from the wind which can be a problem in that area. Bamburgh, Seahouses and the Holy Island are all within a few miles and Alnwick is about an hour away - all worth a day out.
Your first trip to Northumberland won't be your last!

We stayed at Dunstan Hill CCC - we walked past Proctors Stead into Craster. Walking distance to beach. Embleton has a few pubs, post office and general store. It was also our fist time to this area last year and we all loved it.
Hi, HIGHBURN HOUSE HOLIDAY PARK at Wooler is fantastic. The site is beautiful, amenities superb and the price is about the best I've ever seen - caravan/tent/motorhome with 2 adults is £14, extra adult £3, children £1 and hook up £3. There are sure to be cheaper sites but I don't think you'll better this one over all. There isn't a bar or shop on site but its only about 500 yards to the town centre with everything you could want. Check their website on this forum.

We have stayed at Dunstan quite a few times,we are going again in May.We love Northumberland. It has beaches to rival anywhere in the UK and they are so uncrowded(I really shouldn't be say that as it might get too popular, lol)
The only downside is it can be quite chilly so do go prepared.

We stayed in 2 places a couples of years ago - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2558 - Beadnell Bay which was in a gorgeous location near a beautiful beach & walkable to Bamburgh with the castle. There were a couple of good pubs in the village too. We drove into Alnwick one day - it's worth visiting the amazing second habd bookshop there.
Also - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4968 - Demesne Farm in Bellingham which was a cute little campsite in a large villege, again with pubs. This was handy for Kielder forest where our son had a brilliant day on a mountain bike taster session that was run by a bike shop in the forest. Kielder's a good place to visit for walks & water-y things!
