Going on our first ever camping trip for the May Day Bank holiday weekend. Have whittled down the sites to Brighouse Bay or Blair castle as they are an easy drive from Glasgow (need to leave straight from work sat 1pm and thought these would be good as not too far away). We have a 3 yr old daughter and a dog to entertain so don't want it to be too quiet a site so thought that these both looked appealing. Have already read all the reviews on this site for both but cant decide, can anyone who has been to both recommend one over the other? thanks.

Went to Brighouse last easter(caravan) and was quite impressed. Good facillities including pool and entertainment, although they are quite a distance from the caravaning/camping area and it was pitch black in certain areas at night on the walk back - you really couldn't see 6ft in front of you in the caravan area. Haven't stayed at Blair Castle but have driven round - looked okay, very big.
If camping take torches for evening/night trips to the loos

I would certainly go back to brighouse, if it wasn't such a long haul from Fife

Been to both sites and both are excellent. Depends on what your looking for but seeing as you have a yound kid can I suggest you go to Brighouse as they have a pool and various other activities if the weather wasn't too good.

Blair Atholl is one of our favourite sites so give them both a try sometime. Happy camping.

Been Brighouse in the past and liked it.  You do have to pay extra for the pool but a nice thing to do on a rainy day.  Seaward, down the road from Brighouse, is also a really nice site and the area around is lovely.   Stayed there last August.  There are enough things to do locally too if the weather is not great including trips round the various castles and a visit to the creamery (more interesting than you would expect)  There is a great local whiskey distilleray too that does trips though not sure your 3 year old would see it quite the way you would.

Not been to Brighouse but can thoroughly recommend Blair Castle :)

It's a great site for littluns and dogs :)  Our kids love the play area as there is something for them all to do.  Their is a river alongside the campsite that the kids and dogs love to be near.  There is even a little sandy area to play on by the river.  It's in the village so only a short walk to the shops and the Athol Arms has a play area and is next to the Train Station so you can sit in the garden and watch the trains :)

It really is the most perfect place, my only complaint would be that it is so perfect that leaving to go out on daytrips is hard work as none of us want to leave once we get there lol.  Oh, and that it is too far away to visit very often :(  Wish i could find a site like it nearer home :(

We went to Blair Castle last October and I thought it was a lovely campsite. In fact we stayed longer than we had intended because it was so nice.

Have only been to Brighouse Bay and loved it.

We used the pool in the club house which is excellent and really good if it's a rainy day (though we went in the Oct half term and used it at night time). It is at the top of the site and little walk to get to it but nothing excessive.
The site - being at the 'end of the road' is nice and quiet
The beach and rocks (the bay) are great for both dog walking and rock pooling and children to have a good run about - as is the wooded area all around the shoreline.
The playground is a good size and equipment really nice - not just boring swing and slide.
The facilities are excellent.
The on site shop is well stocked with everyhtig youcould need - fresh bread delivered daily.

There's lots to do around and about too - our children like the Wild Life Park place at Kircudbright.
We also like the Rock and Gem Museum at Creetown (just up the coast)
There is a horse riding place right next to the site.
Of course there's also the Golf COurses that are part of the site - and hence the club house and swimming pool.

Thanks to all who replied. Going to Brighouse Bay on our first trip in May and will visit Blair Castle sometime in June. Best of both worlds!

Hi I was going to say go to Brighouse as your 3 year old will love it. I only live 20miles from site but my wife and daughter love it so go for weekends few times a year.

I would recommend you take your daughter to cream of galloway they have a website dog can go also as the have dog walks and awesome ice cream.

If you would like any info on things to do in the close area feel free to ask.

Gerry
