My son and three male friends (aged 20 - 22) want to camping in the Lake District before heading back to Uni in September but have been coming up against the single sex group issue. So what number is a group?

They're not noisy, don't drink much and want to do some hill-walking (they're all experienced) and will be using my Outwell Phoenix as well as my son's pop-up and I don't loan my tent to irresponsible people! They've borrowed my kit before and haven't come up against this problem before.  My son only mentioned this last night and, as he's not been doing the phone round, he's not sure what sites have been approached - not helpful!

Just wondered if anyone on here has had this problem or knows of sites that don't class four young men as a group?  They'll need loos/showers but no EHU.

Presumably more than 2.
This is very unfortunate for the responsible groups but, as a campsite owner recently posted, if a noisy group turn up, and there is already a group on site, the owners cannot legally refuse admittance to them, so they have to ban all groups

It's a tricky one because if a family of two couples wanted to camp together I can't see them objecting. They now aren't supposed to discriminate against same sex couples sharing so I don't see the difference. Perhaps your son should tell them he's one of two gay couples and watch the campsite stammer and stutter over that

It may come down to that, Bob!  Though if I make that suggestion, I suspect the four of them will be totally horrified!

If I remember correctly the explanation came from Jasmine Park?  I can follow their reasoning and accept it but it does seem very wrong  in principle that one has to lie to be able to camp together. Hardly auspicious for the future and a damning indictment of our society that this should be the case.

This is getting stupid!

One of our campsites is closing over the weekend of one local event because it's the over 25s who cause the chaos. I have to be away that w/end and the two of the same young men plus son are going to manhandle the boat on its' trailer to block our drive after I leave so no-one can use our garden for camping and sh9££9ng, vomiting and dumping their litter everywhere.

If a man and his 2 sons came along. Would they get turned away? Because going by what many campsites say. No groups of people where 3 people are the same sex.
