I have booked to stay at this campsite in May and i'm quite looking forward to pitching next to the river (hopefully).

Since booking however, i have now convinced myself that i should invest in an EHU mains unit and electric coolbox to use as a fridge to keep food/drink cold.

My question is really to anyone that has stayed here before. Do the EHU pitches still put you next to the river? Or am i likely to get a nicer pitch with no EHU?

In fact, in general with all campsites, if i were to book a pitch with EHU am i less likely to get a nice place to pitch?

The one thing that is slightly putting me off going down the whole EHU route is how it firstly limits your choice of campsite, and then potentially limits your pitch options at the campsite with EHU.

Hi

We've stayed at Exe Valley and I think (if I remember rightly) that all the pitches have EHU with the exception of a few tent only pitches which are nearer to the weir.

We have always had a pitch next to the river although the ones bordering the millstream get more evening sun!

Unless anything has changed you normally have a choice of pitches on arrival and can select from what's free

Yes that's the site, can't decide if it will be better with or without a EHU

Hi,

I live about 30 mins from this site and have stayed there camping on a short weekend break.  To be honest, nowhere on this site is a bad place to pitch.  It's a very pretty site.  We went without EHU and were further up the site on the left hand side bordering the river.  We got the morning sun but did not get the tea time sun like the people pitched on the other side due to the trees.

Some of the non EHU pitches are further away from the loos (we were on 40 something) so a little further to walk.  You usually find all the caravans and motorhomes managed to bag the best pitches.

Can recommend the pub across the road, and there are LOTS of pheasants!!

We stayed here a couple of years ago and as a previous post said most pitches have EHU and the pitches near the river are very large. Its a nice site but they could have done with more shower blocks and at that time could have done with a bit of improvement (it may have been done since then - check the website).

Agree with the comment about the pub across the road, we ate there a couple of times and it was very good.

I assume as you dont have EHU you are in a tent. The only annoying thing about this site was that they charge extra for a "large tent" I think they mean anything over 3 mtr wide (not sure about length). The reason the owner gave was the wear on the grass. As he makes you move the tent anyway if you are staying longer that 7 nights I found this a bit of a con.

Having said that it is a nice site in a lovely location. There are some nice walks over the hill from the site as well. A picture being worth a thousand words I've added a couple of shots taken from the river side of the site looking towards the mill house.

Have a great time, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

As the others have said all the pitches are nice - but the pitches that arn't next to the river get far more evening sun.  Most pitches have EHU and the only ones that don't are next to the river so if you want to definitely make sure that you are next to the river I would stick with a non EHU one!

The second picture I put on was taken from our tent which was on the river side of the site and we had EHU. Being "softie" campers we wouldn't dream of not having EHU. Fridge, heater, electric kettle, electric light, chargers, laptop (if there is wifi) etc. etc. mean we dont rough it anymore.I suppose its a case of "if you have never had it - you dont miss it". Once having experienced all the comforts however it would be impossible to get my wife in a tent without.

So much so that the first thing we ever check on reviews are comments about the toilet/shower blocks. Any negative comments and they are off the list of possibles immediately.
