Kissmekate, I camp with my my six year old son, and my little girl who has just turned four - and I have an activity box - contains colouring books, paper, pens dough etc. I find this invaluable when camping (keep a box just for camping), helps keep the kids amused either in the tent, or sitting just outside. Gives me time to cook etc. and also have that valuable five minutes. I also take a portable DVD and a few disc for emergencies - found this very useful a couple of times this summer when the weather was totally impossible. On our main holiday the rain started Tuesday, and although we spent the week dodging showers, Wednesday night was heavy rain, and Friday the weather was impossible. Disney films saved the day. I won't use it as the main source of entertainment - but on the odd occassion it can be a lifesave (or more importantly my sanity saver).
