Hi

My son wants to go fossil hunting this summer so we're hoping to go camping on the Jurassic Coast.

I'm sifting through all the campsite reviews but I don't know the area at all so any recommendations for a good family friendly campsite on the Jurassic Coast ??

Hi cal+issysmum,

 Go careful if fossil hunting around Lyme Regis/Charmouth, keep away from the Cliffs, when down on the beaches, and keep off the soft fallen mud from the cliff falls,have just read today in the local news about a big cliff fall this past week, the biggest for years apparently, many people get caught out in that area, but don't let me put you off your Fossil Hunting, go find that Big Dino waiting to be found.

Lyme Regis//Seaton/ Beer are lovely Seaside Towns, Lyme Regis beach has more for kids with it's beach/swimming/ rock pools/small esplanade/and new landscaped gardens overlooking the beach.

There are often guided fossil walks from Charmouth beach and there's a cafe and fossil shop by the beach. Charmouth itself has 2 pubs, Nisa (convenience store), butchers, a great chippy which does a range of food , cafe, hardware/gift store and a pharmacy.

is just outside the village and imo not really walkable, esp with small or young children!

Many Thanks to you all for these recommendations.

I totally agree about being careful on the coast, it can be so dangerous. I live near Blackpool and we have issues with people not respecting the sea, although no cliffs. Two lads drifted off the coast last week on inflatables and had to be rescued by the RNLI.

I don't think we'll be doing any serious fossil hunting. More looking through the pebbles to see what we see rather than cliff climbing. The fossil hunting tours sound good though !
