Help, I've just spent the last couple of days in Southport with my family. On an early morning stroll this morning I wandered past Victoria Park, next to Morrisons' for those who know the area, where I was greeted with upwards of 20 tents in the park itself, right next door to the Southport eco centre.

Now as an avid camper I thought to myself that looks a decent site to read up on my return home, I would have popped in to mozy round but having the children with me made it too difficult at 8 in the morning.

Now having got home and completed the usual searches I can't find any trace of the camp site I saw. I'm now questioning my sanity, was it really there, was it a (very, very) large group of people taking a chance and camping in a park, or is it a new campsite???

Anybody help???

There is a Caravan Club site right next to the park, but it does not allow tents.... so maybe it was a local group camping or some sort of rally?

Thanks S&S, I'm beginning to think that it must have been some local group like you say. It did seem well organised. It's a pity if it is though, the 'site' is in a really good spot, near to town and just a stones throw from the sea/beach. Wish I'd gone in and asked now! You live and learn I guess , next time I'm in Southport though it will be the first place I drive past

We have been to the caravan club site at Southport quite a few times and walk the area a lot with our dog and have never seen a camp site where you say so I think its probably a one-off

It will have been people there for a special event, rally or something, I have seen that before in Victoria park.

It could have been an exhibition of tents for sale. Bank holidays are good for tent sales and it could just be a temporary sales pitch.
