I know, I don't want much do I!

We are looking at going away for 8 nights in August.  We have just had a very windy weekend in York and to be honest the wind would spoil a longer break for me and it seems every time I dare to mention the word "tent" a hurricane starts to brew!  We are booked in at Marfit Head Farm, but having gone for a drive up there on Sunday it didn't look particularly sheltered.  I am in two minds what to do as the reviews are fantastic for the site.

So, we are looking to see if there are any alternatives.  A sheltered site, preferably cheap, and I mean really cheap, with EHU.  The good news is we are quite flexible about location, I would say within 2 hours drive of Huddersfield, so North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire....

Can anybody help?

Try Laurel park nr Spalding. Its very quiet, newly opened, so not many customers yet. the whole (3 acres) field is surrounded by really tall trees, with no gaps, so when the wind blows, I ma sure it would give good protection.

Hi Booma_mitch

We camped at Foxhill Park last year at Springbank and although it is a pleasant site, it is very exposed and we had high winds, which trashed one friend's extension and other friends ended up using one of the wooden benches to save their tent bowing in on itself and stayed up all night.

I would have thought that Marfit Head would be also exposed, I would suggest something in a vale bottom!

Such as Black Bull at Pickering and across the road is Upper Carr, or if you like no frills simple; Carr House Farm, again just up the road from Black Bull. On the same road but nearer to Malton is Wyse House, which is sheltered by a large barn on one side of the site.

Or how about coming to Filey and camping at Centenary Way, also quite a well sheltered site.

Best wishes sam

PS: Carr House Farm is really cheap, it was £10 with ehu last year per unit! (so might have gone up in price)

Best wishes Sam

Hi

Thanks everyone, some lovely suggestions there.

Thanks for the suggestion Sam, We have booked at Carr House Farm as although it still appears to be open to the elements for tents, I can't see it will be worse than up in the hills!  And at only £10 per night with EHU it certainly ticks the cheap box.  Although the reviews are mixed the downsides seem to be the facilities, but we take our own toilet anyway, so there is only the shower, and we will just wait until less busy times, we usually do anyway.

Foxhill is a lovely site.  We have stayed there before and had a lovely time.  I think the problem this time was more the direction of the wind,  it was hitting our tent head on and we had no escape really.  Not the site's fault at all, Karl was saying that other sites nearer the coast had had to close because of the wind, even for caravans.

Thanks everyone

BM
