Now I'm fully booked for all the major weeks and bank hols I'm starting to look for an after work weekend getaway for those sunny weekends. We live in Birmingham and we always used to go to Pillaton Pools but since they've closed I'm struggling to find a replacement. We'd ideally like a caravan pitch with elec, dogs allowed and something for the kids within an hour or so from home.

Where are all the other Pillaton people going now and has anyone found a replacement with a playground that compares?!! My kids are really missing their fav site so any new ideas are welcome

Looks like it is open or is it a different place to the above?

It's the same place Ali but are now ridiculously priced, they're charging £30 a night, so far I haven't heard of anyone who's going to use it any more.

We used to go regularly and are now using Ebury Hill, Shrewsbury, only £12 a night, I don't think it'd suit Natmort though as there's no real play area, just 2 swings and a slide, it is surrounded by woods though & the kids we see there do seem very happy playing in there.

Hiya, yes I had a read, wow, they are in cloud cuckoo for a site with few facilities eh! Shame, but I do have to sympathise with the rubbish it seems they had to put up with last year with yobbos etc. Why can't people behave nicely?

It was a real shame, we were talking to the owner at the end of the season & he had no idea what to do, I think they're trying to price people out of the market who just wanted a cheap, boozy weekend away but it's stopped the decent folk going too.

Most sites with 5* facilities in prime seaside locations don't charge £30 per night.

I think they'd have been better making it a seasonal site, charge folk £750 for a permanent pitch then they lose it all if they're antisocial, they'd have a guaranteed income & more than likely fill it with non-troublemakers.

Well I would actually go there again - as £30 a night for us being that family of 4 with awning you pay for regardless then its not too bad considering the facilities.  However, the play area which was a massive draw for our children has been re-sited (as owner told me he'd torched the original play area which is now a picnic area) so I'd be interested in finding out what the new play area is like but I can't imagine it being as good as previously.

Never paid £30 a night and don't intend to start now! For that I would want a super pitch at the very least and even then I wouldn't pay it. We've never paid more than £15 a night for the four of us (plus the 2 JR terrorists) with awning a decent shower block and hard standing.

I didn't realise they were opening all weekend now - originally it was only bank hols and we tend to go further away for them. £30 is extortionate, especially when you read in the small print that the shop isn't even open on weekends. Would be interested to hear from anyone who's been to see how it compares.

Anyway - ideas for new local sites appreciated. Playground doesn't have to be massive. Out current new fav is woodlands at Ashbourne and that has no park but nice woods to build dens in! It's always good to get away for a last min weekend away with not too much travel time

Once you start paying £30 a night, they'll (not just Pillaton) will try £35 or £40 a night. If you pay it, then they'll charge it. I think some people have lost sight of what a patch of grass is worth for a night.

Yes I know its expensive, but for us its familiar, close to OHs work and the kids love it.  However, I would expect all facilities to be up and running of a weekend though - thats a bit odd.  We do pay £30+ for the right site but as we haven't had a bad experience and we are still saving a fortune on a regular holiday we are fine with that.  We have just returned from a fabulous site which was only £18 for the 4 of us incl ehu - so we tend to choose what we like and location over price anyway.  I don't feel we have lost sight of anything.

I would be very interested in knowing where everyone is going now. We live in stafford and went last year and were in amazement that such a lovely site was so close to home. 10 min drive for us.

So is their anyware in in our local area that conpares. £30 for us is a big no no.

So sad such a lovely site has priced us decent folk right out all because of yobbos who cant take their drink

Have just been looking at Woodlands that someone has mentioned above. Got all the way to nearly booking then looked on the dog policy and our lovely staffy's are not welcome. Gutted. I hate when people get the wrong idea about these loyal family pets. Oh well will keep looking

We go to High Onn Caravan Club site which is about 7 miles from Stafford.   Works out between 10-15 a night depending on season, has a lovely dog walk across the lane with open areas and a small wood our dogs love it. You do need to use your vans shower and loo though as there are no facilities on site even so even our kids love it there we were there for 9 nights over easter.

Yeah ive been past High Onn many times but always put me off because not having a facilities block as we dont use shower in our van. Im trying at present to book into Red Lion Farm at Haughton for this coming half term. Its going to be my first solo trip away with the kids so want to be close to home incase i need help. Still waiting to here back from them about avalibility. We would of course of gone pillaton if the price wasnt so high.

I've booked Red Lion for August. You're better off ringing as I know when I booked they said they were filling up fast. It looks great though!

We're not in the clubs so does anyone have ideas for non-club sites locally?
