It would be helpful if you could provide a bit more information about what you are looking for, like if there are children in your group; if yes, then their age; whether you need access to a beach, forest, cycle track; near to pool, pub, etc. etc...
For me, I am returning to Birchwood Tourist Park later this year.
Very peaceful site close to Wareham Forest, not far from Sandbank, Swanage or Poole, very good facilities, and I believe they have large pitches.

we've been to sea barn farm, nice, but far too regimented for us, the family next door got told off as one of their guy ropes had gone out of their white line !!!, the site has superb showers though. also a bit further along next to corfe castle is a lovley site called downshay farm, beautiful setting on a hill overlooking the purbeck hills, corfe castle, and a steam train line, i hear a new toilet block has been built since we last went, were back to dorset this month, were going to hook farm, in lyme regis, we have two teenagers, and two younger children to entertain, hope this helps, gary

We have been to South Lytchett Manor campsite near Poole a couple of times. This ticks all the boxes with regards to pitch size, friendliness, location, facilities etc. If you like nature you can see deer in the adjoining fields, and there is a nice little craft centre/cafe next door, and a good pub within walking distance.
It is well placed for Poole (15 mins) Swanage (40 mins) and has a huge Tesco within 10 min drive.
Hi, we are going there on 21st May, (cant wait.) So thanks for the plug.!
------------- Why can't we live in the tent..?

Riverside Lakes has been stored in my "must visit" sites for some time.
It's about 20 minutes from Bournemouth and is more the "natural" campsite rather than holiday park. You can have fires and it seems very relaxed and laid back. I think this could offer the "open areas" you may be seeking rather than play areas. Has an informal feel without silly rules - so don't think you'd have any problems with your tent.
Has good reviews - looks as though the owners are friendly, even come out with glowsticks in the evening for the kids!

Our eldest children are 15 and 13, we often visit Wareham Forest Tourist Pk, they offer excellent facilities. Located right in the forest, with walks directly off the park. Play area, pool table, table tennis, outdoor pool and large grassed area for ball games etc for older kids.
We love Dorset as excellent for getting to lots of different attractions, esp with having older kids. Also visiting Hoburne Bashley this summer, altho a busier site the reviews are good and the thinking being will have even more for kids to do and in great location to the New Forest. Can also take dogs to both these sites.

We also went to Wareham Forest just before Easter and really liked the site. Very well looked after, between Poole and Weymouth. We were on a hardstanding pitch - very level, lot of room. Park is well laid out with an open area for football near entrance. Read reviews here.
