My partner and I have just decided to head to the Peak District on 28 May for a week in our tent...last minute I know! I have trawled through the campsite listings and reviews and although I have a couple of possibilities there's nothing like a personal recommendation. I fancy Edale/Hope/Castleton area or possibly south of there between Bakewell and Buxton. Be glad to hear from anyone who knows of a site which will suit us. Size of site not important but scenic, with EHU's and good clean showers without queues...oh and level pitches, no road noise, or late night partying would be a bonus. The tent is large so we need a good sized pitch and prefer not to be jammed in like sardines. Any help appreciated, thank you.

nice site...level-ish pitches (tell them size of tent as pitch sizes vary)
great views/facilities, 15min walk into Bakewell..

Thank you Marmalize, I'd ruled this one out on the basis of some of the reviews I read.  Had another look (as you recommend it and obviously camp there) and it does sound like a really nice location with good facilities and staff. Not so concerned about the slope as most people state it was not too much of a problem. Have read several reviews that mention mud and being pulled out by tractors, suggesting it may not be a very well drained location. Leaving my Land Rover at home and we're using the other half's Saab - be interested in your view on the mud situation? Also wasps (hopefully still early in the year for them to be a big problem?

well...i think the tractor pulling is because the site is on the side of the valley(with bakewell being in the bottom) so although the pitches are fairly level the site isn't (iyswim)..

i would say if weather looks dodgy get the tent pitched and park the Saab up near the reception..
we were pitched at the top of 'hawthorne' field but the bigger pitches seemed to be on the next terrace down..
we had no probs but i can see how they would if you were pitched at the bottom of the field.

we went first week in september and had no problems with wasps, a bit windy due to location/open aspect so couldn't have the awning up..but apart from that it was fine and dandy
