As discussed here - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=245323&PagePosition=3

We will soon be going away for our first family camp.

We are doing a trial run at the beginning of June and would like to know of a pleasent site in the Peak District.

We have a baby, a toddler and a child.

Am not bothered about "family facilities", we can entertain ourselves, just want a nice, family friendly, welcoming site.

Many Thanks.

callow tops is ok - nothing fancy - its on the tissington trail, close to ashbourne. Got a pub, never went in.

You could always come over here - there is a nice site at conkers - a camping and caravanning site. Im just up the road so can help if you get stuck with anything lol.
Good luck

Lou

We regularly camp in the Peak District as its not far from home. My favourite sites are:
Beech Croft Farm, Buxton - just had new facilities added so is on my list to revisit, lovely walks from site.
Carsington Fields, Ashbourne - stayed here a few times, lovely walk round Carsington Water - plenty of open space for children.
Birchwood Farm, Whatstandwell is also family friendly with a play area and lovely walks.

I have stopped at Laneside at Hope a couple of times. It is a very pleasant site despite the bit of road noise you get told about in the reviews

Hi  Just been to Woodland Caravan Park at Snelston - 3 miles south of Ashbourne. Small friendly site which welcomes children and dogs - children allowed to play in the woods and make dens.  Small clean toilet block with washing facilities.  Cock inn at Clifton - next village - excellent meals.  They are opposite Darley Moor racetrack - so check on their website when they are racing Only during daytime (they do publish the racedays)  Lovely walks from the site as well.  - hope this helps

we have been to greenhills at bakewell and barn farm at birchover

Greenhills has a play area next to a small bar, good.clean toliets and showers and some fields for ball sports. The main A6 runs below it( not directly ) so there can be a bit of traffic noise at night - not bad but there it is a short walk into ashover or bakewell

Barn Farm is really really friendly and very informal, it is a short walk into the village for the shop and pubs with food it leads directly out into some lovely walks - the only 2 downsides are, it is so informal people seem to pitch anywhere and when it is busy you can find someone right outside your door, my sister was actually stuck on a pitch as she was surrounded and it is a narorw road it not a problem for campers but might be for big caravans

Having spent the weekend there a couple of weeks ago we would second that. If nothing else you will see just how good the facilities can be on a campsite (they've even installed huge solar panels on the roof of the brand new shower/toilet blocks)

The little camp shop sells a few bits and pieces and Buxtonis a short drive away should you forget something essential. Add to that easy access, helpful owners, huge pitches with lots of open space (pretty much pitch anywhere) and I'd say it was a great place for a first outing too.

How bad is the slope at Beech Croft Farm which people talk about in the reviews?

With this being my first pitch I do not want to be battling with a hill as well - lol

Thanks.

We didn't feel that it was much of a slope at all really, it's there but certainly no worse than many sites you'll stay at.

It was our first time pitching the new tent and we didn't want any complications either however it went fine, sure yours will too.

Not sure if the picture helps to re-assure you, here it is anyway!

It is looking like either Beech Croft Farm or Camping Meadow at Rivendale....

Any more suggestions folks?

Thanks.

Appologies, should have posted in here previously instead of starting a new thread.

Anyway, I have booked to goto Beech Croft Farm for a weekend for our first ever camp.

Fingers crossed.

Thank you all for your input.
